Steering dampeners for Rodeo

Are there steering dampeners available for R7 -R9 Rodeos?

There is a connection point for one on the drag link on my R9 but no connection point for the other end that I can see.

If anyone can enlighten me I'd be pleased to know.

My R7 doesn't have one. Doesn't need one either.

What do you want one for?

Sudso,

I have noticed this also and pondered the possibility and put it in the back corner of my mind in a priority of 287 out of 300 of current things that I have to do.

In my naive understanding, the Rodeo in its current form probably has no use for steering dampening. I am not sure what you experience, but steering vaugness, returning back to centre and the likes are not a big issue.

What I have heard indirectly is that increasing rubber size does change the stering characteristics and many put on or beef up their steering dampeners to suit. But considering, even with suspension and body lift, that 33's are the max one can put on, I am doubtful that dampening is required.

But...... this does still not satisfy my curiosity as to why there is a hole on the steering arm that appears to accept a dampener but nothing at the other end!!!! If you get an answer pls let me know.

Well Utemad, I dont yet know if I need one either but the fact that there is a connection point there has got me curious like you Rainsey.

Maybe the Jackaroo's have the same drag link with a steering shocker and Isuzu borrowed it for the Rodeo's.....Who knows.
It seems Isuzu do strange things anyway.

I did read though on Planet Isuzu I think it was, that there is an aftermarket idler arm or something with the other connection point on it.

I've been told too that the deo's dont need one but who knows, with a lift and bigger tyres in the rough.......might be needed.

Let you's know what I find out.

I agree that it is interesting that it is there but has no purpose. However I have noticed that Isuzu do use interchangable parts on their vehicles. Comes in very handy.

However with the tyre sizes people run on these vehicles there does not seem any point in running one IMHO.

Yeah good point utemad.
I suppose that with Isuzu's design of these Rodeo's it limits the extent of mods that can be done to turn them into a serious off road machine unless you go to lengths like RoeDao has with a springover etc.
It doesn't bother me though, mine will be adequate for all it's intended purposes and I like the whole package anyway but would like to get the most out of it without having to resort to "engineered mods" if you know what I mean.

Interestingly though, my 87 IFS Triton 4x4 has a factory steering dampener and I've noticed a few other makes of utes have them too but the Triton is pretty capable off road anyway.
Maybe they just need em....hehe. but due to the Rodeo's superior design they dont...hehe.

Rancho make a kit to bolt a steering dampener to the TF rodeo. I have one on my 2002 V6 - not necessary but it takes a lot of the sloppy feel around the straight ahead position out of the steering wheel. The kit comes with two bolt on brackets - the existing bracket on the steering link is NOT used. Cost was about $130 or so from what was then called Topdog 4WD.

It's not a bracket on the drag link, it's an eye cast in off the side of it with a hole for what could only be steering dampener fitment.
Can you post a pic of your set up please?

I am new to this, thought that I'd join because i might be able to help out with a few of the topics.

I worked on Jackaroo's and Rodeo's for nearly 10 years at holden dealership in Far North Qld. I currently own a 3.0l TD 2002 R9 4WD dual cab. One of my vehicle before this was a 1995 Rodeo space cab which believe it or not had a Steering Dampner fitted to the mount point on the drag link that you are all talking about. Because this was such a rarity I enquired with the Holden State rep and he explained tp me that there had been a few early model that had a steering vibration fault and that this was a fix that had been used in other countries. I had never encountered the fault myself during the time that i worked on Rodeo's but the dampner that was fitted was definately an Isuzu unit. I enquired with the holden dealer here in Alice Springs about it just a few months ago so i could fit one to my newer R9 and they stated that they had never heard of it and that it was not listed on the Holden Parts Finder. This was the only Rodeo that I have ever seen with a Dampner fitted to it.
I wanted to fit one to my R9 to try and eliviate feedback that I now have after fitting 245/75/R16 tyres. I will contact Rancho as recommended by one of the other writers.

Apparently 4 Way Suspension Systems do, or used to do a steering dampener kit for the deo's.

there current range does not include a dampner for any rodeo models, in saying that it would be relitivly easy to get a small shock and make an adapter with a pipe clamp for the end with no bracket similar to the clampe 3rd and snake etc use on most tie rods for the cruiser and patrol range
