WE Rock Competition Dates 2006
These are the dates im looking at:
Round 1 - 11/12 March - Rover Park
Round 2 - 15/16 April - Bathurst
Round 3 - 27/28 May - Landcruiser Park
Round 4 - 1/2 July - SORRA (same place as Nissan trials)
Finals - 12/13 August - Milbrodale
Basically the series has to be finished in August to give us enough time to send the rigs to the US for the World Finals.
Will also look into trying to run an event in Vic again. Would be good to run a round on the same property as Cheezys Oz Rocks if that works out well.
These dates are only tentative at best. So if anybody has got any input then now is the time.

Am definately open to offers for venues. So post up any ideas.Wendle wrote: are you open to offers for other venues, or are you happy with what you have?
Like we did this year making events happen is not always easy especially trying to make events happen so far from ny home.
So what Im trying to make happen next year is to get a good series happening to be able to select a decent team to go to the US. Im also trying to raise enough money to actually pay for sending the team. And lastly I really want to make these events happen with me spending as little time away from home as possible. The way it worked this year the Bathurst and Milbrodale events took me a week round trip and i really carnt do this every month for 6 months during the season.
So new venues are fine as long as the new venue comes with people that are really keen to make the event happen. With the CCDA doing the event insurance we can easily look at new places as long as we can get the council appoval done.
The thing also is that we really dont have much time next year to make the events happen. We are really tied into these 6 months so we can make the World Finals (although pushing the finals back to 2nd 3rd Sept if we can may suit me better)
How keen are people to run events in this series?? What would really suit me is that if WE Rock would just sanction events for our series and have other groups actually run the events. What could then happen is these groups can then hold other events to get the sport growing.
But anyway - this might be for the future. Basically the way I see it is i have to sort out the dates and locations very soon and commit to them so that I can work on promoting them.
So any suggestions?? Could easily drop the SORRA event for something else and I suppose we could add another venue. Going to be a lot of work to make it happen though.
Sam
I think it looks fine how it is.
Series kick arse, anyone can have a "lucky two days" but try and string together 10 days (5 events) of consistant performances to sort out who's on top. Now thats what its all about!
One thing for everyone to rememeber is that WEROCK needs to make money (one to generate into a decent series and two to send team/s to the USA) and for that to be done we need spectators. What i have seen is that people struggle to travel more than two hours to watch an event.
Berridale would be one of the best spots i have seen pics of, however i think there would be a concern in regards to how far from a major city it is.
All locations listed are within a 3 hour drive of a major capital city. (even three hours is pushing it for spectators).
The first way is also a lot more evenly spread, it will work out financially similar no matter where you live, however the second suggestion i would be looking at forking out over 10 grand in 12 weeks (berridale, Yea, milbrodale).

I know where your coming from, how about someone run a PUOSU event prior to the WEROCK series at Berridale and see how many spectators show up!N*A*M wrote:canberra to berridale = 2h

I just looked at Brisbane to Berridale and Brisbane to Yea. Now thats a bloody long way.
I think Berridale is going to be too much in the middle of nowhere for me to make happen next year. Even Yea is going to be a stretch. It would obviously be great to run events in these places to develop the sport but i dont think I will have the time nor the money to do this next year.
I dont have an easy solution??
I think given how far away Melbourne is from Brisbane we almost need two seperate series (like in the US where they have east and west series) to keep the costs down.
I think for next year will probably just do something like the events I first posted cause this is where most of the competitors are.
Still open to suggestions to try to make this work in Berridale and Yea.
Maybe if sombody else runs the event totally and I just fly in to set the courses and maybe we let the competitors drop there worst event for the series points?? Not a cheap excercise to run an event though. Looking at almost 10 grand just to cover the basics to run an event on private property. Plus my airfairs plus freight to get the event gear to the competition site (another grand say). Dont think this would be viable at this stage of the sport. I guess I have done my ar$e enough this year without having to try to push the sport into new venues.
Other ideas?

personally Sam i would stick with what you have planned as you cant really justify the cost of setting events up at Berridale and Yea as yet..
i know this might sound a bit rough on the guys from down south (NAM,Cheezy,Wendle etc, etc) however nationwide events dont just spring up overnight and Werock will grow naturally as spectator numbers increase.. also as you have said the majority of competitors are from Brisbane, Sydney etc at this stage and if you are wanting to keep the cost of entry level into the sport down to attract new competitors that would not be the way to do it...as Adrain has said, transport costs alone to get from Brisbane to Yea would be pretty high and this does not include the cost of breakages etc when you get there...and vice versa for the guys coming from Melbourne up to Cruiser Park.. it just wouldnt make it viable for a lot of people to compete in the series as a whole...
i think give it one more year at least running the way it is now with Werock covering northern states and Oz rock covering Southern states and let the sport grow naturally.....
