I noticed an add in the latest 4wd monthly about the commander 950 series of single point fuel injection to replace you carbies and im wondering if anyone has had any experiance with these?
i know it not a 4x4 but im currently running a holley 600 on my mild 308 and was wondering if it will have any performance/fuel useage benifits??

Holley Fuel Injection

I ran Holley injection ona worked 308 in a RR
Was far better as never had any issue with things like foaming in the float bowl, no loss of fuel on hills etc.
Was a bit of a knack to getting it set up but once you got the method down its fine.

What, haven't you ever done lines of International Roast off a hookers back with $100 notes?
Re: Holley Fuel Injection
I am currently investigating this idea too, I think there is mild performance and fuel gains but the real benefits are offroad with the all angles performance.BeZeRK wrote:I noticed an add in the latest 4wd monthly about the commander 950 series of single point fuel injection to replace you carbies and im wondering if anyone has had any experiance with these?

Did they have a price attached?
Something witty said by someone famous
Its pretty good, my brother had apretty hot XB with it fitted, 351, 4Vvalves with 2V heads (to make a bit more power down low), pretty big cam (cant remember the specs but it didnt really come on somg until over 100km\h in top) and it used to smoke the tyres in 1st,2nd and 3rd.
With the Fuel injection and electronic ignition (Mallory) it never broke down, there was no fiddling with it every couple of months (once it was set on a dyno it was near perfect) and it used to get about 400-420 per tank.
The only fault was I didnt get to fit a purge tank to it before he moved to Cairns. Because the fuel tank wasnt built for fuel injection it used to starve for fuel if you went too fast around a corner under 1/4 of a tank.
Now this was 10 years ago so I suggest they have improved the system since then.
Do a search as there were a couple of threads on this in the last 12 months.

Mate,
I am currently piecing together a 'home brew' efi set up
Uses a computer from the web and falcon throttle bodies
For more info on this set up check out my reply at the bottom of this post
http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... megasquirt
Originally I was going to run a twin set on my 308 hz
Got a single throttle body, slightly polished) on a spreadbore adaptor if your intrested
Another option is to use the GM (USA) option.
Same thing basically a carby with injectors used on v8s
Superformance sells these for about $90, I think, and $400 for the factory computer, non adjustable but easy with rego as it's all factory
http://www.superformance.com.au
Alot of guys on the megasquirt forum have ditched the Holly computer for a megasquirt
They seem to have heaps of probs with the holly system
My advice would be to look at one of the options above with preference for MegaSquirt as you can add ignition control and other functions later
One more thing if running a turbo 700R (460LE later model holden 4 speed auto) a second megasquirt can be reprogramed easily to control it.
Does full standard mode plus 'tiptronic' steering wheel buttons, sports mode, transbrake, launch control and traction control
Their is basically no limits with megasquirt as you reprogram it do what ever you want like controling thermo fans, nos systems, turbo controllers.........
Unfortunatey due to a slight accident with my truck I will not be able to look at my system until about FEB
Drop a PM if you need any info on MSquirt
Cheers
Wayne

Hi Wayne, i have been eyeing off the ford tbi units every time i go to the wreckers as they are cheap and are easily adaptable to a carb motor. Do you know what fuel pressure they require to operate ? Another unit i have thought aboput is a GM tbi unit which only requires about 12 psi fuel pressure but are less available than the ford ones.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
