I found a place in Brisbane that stocks this, this was a few months back and i can't remember the name of the place.

I ended up contacting small aircraft engineering firms and found a place that uses it and then found out where they get it from. You should try that.

I even found a aircraft firm that had off cuts but they all seemed to short.

It was also cheaper than what i thought it would be. The only reason i didn't end up using it was that i didn't have a lathe and tap to put the threads in the ends.

Also be careful when asking, some people are really stupid. Narrow your first question to "Do you have 7075 solid bar" then ask what size. You may find that someplaces don't have 50mm 7075 but they do have 51mm 7075 :D There are some dumb people out there.

ROFL.. ya reckon? i've actually had to start taking a photo of my car into places when i go to buy stuff. just to get taken seriously. kinda stops the "i've got a patrol/cruiser/hilux/suzuki that'll go anywhere, why don;t you just buy one of them"

as luck would have it i know a dude that builds light airplanes, didn't even think to ask him. i imagine they would use tube, but surely solid bar would come from the same place.

thanks man..

Global Metals - 07 3274 3488
2in 7075 - $82.50/m + GST
1 3/4 7075 - $67.50/m +GST
and it comes in lengths of about 3.66m

I spoke to a guy called Gary in early July.

cool. thanks guys. had no luck locally, so i'll get onto those places. those prices are good if it is the last set i have to make. the 3.6m length sucks for wastage in my case though.

have you tried the following

Capral Aluminium 1300 365 110

Smart Aluminium 02 9526 7311

Ulrich aluminium 02 9725 2377

Alspec 02 9636 4999

O'Brien Aluminium 02 9632 2888

just a few more to try, some of these have rural branches too.

there's another guy near Campbeltown in Sydney that supplies aluminium for mountain bike frames 7070? i'll chase up his number too.

Cheers Chris

yep, we have all of those places, most of them in this street. all can supply 6061. no-one has 7075. this is the problem with trying to do anyhting out of the ordinary in canberra. there is no industry here, the whole place is set up to keep public servants in food, clothes and entertainment. even the seamless tube i used for my chassis had to be special ordered in from wollongong.
