Maverick 3.9:1 Ratios. How far out

Post by MyGQ »

Since the Ford Maverick range come out with 3.9:1 ratios i was wondering if anyone out there like me are running 35's on them and how far out this puts their speedo's

I haven't been able to check yet

One thing i was told that when i slapped my 35's on i would have all the trouble in the world turning them on a Mav due to 3.9's, yet i have done quite a few up hill climbs in the bush and i am still using 1st high range with torque to spare on a 4.2L Dual Fuel Run Patrol, and yes i only use LPG in the bush, no torque loss and it works on any angle.

its quite far out, you loose acceraltion, you loose low down torque and power
and you will always be labouring at highway cruising speeds.

you need probably 4.3's or 4.6's t bring it back to standard. You will be amazed with the difference...

you will waste less gas aswell

Do you definitely have 3.9s, My Mav has 4.1s and 29" tyres. If it has 4.1s you will be able to live with it but it will be noticeably slower, this is personal experience.

ud only have 3.9's if u have an auto.. and 33's with the 3.9's in a auto were shithouse..

i swapped mine to 4.3's and they work well with 33's. speedo out about 10% with that set up though.. gps reads 100 while i have about 110 on the clock

According the the compliance plate on the drivers side hear the Headlights its says the drivetrain is HG39 whcih leads me to conclude a 3.9:1 ratio. Even the Gregories book says that the Maverick XLT come with 3.9:1 as did some patrols.

Might look at a 4.3:1 setup cause i run 33's as my road tyre.

you may never get it accurate to the speedo.. Expensive thing to try and do. They arent accurate from the factory new.

Better option is to run a GPS, mark on the speedo with a white marker where TRUE 40/50/60/70/80/90/100/110 is.

Marks adapters sell electronic speedo correction with two settings. PM me for a price.

A speed camera would have prevented that!

I think my speedo is accurate. I have a Mav with the 3.9 diffs. When I am travelling up the Hume my speedo reads 1 km/h faster that those overhead radar speed monitors. Same applies on the way to Ballarat.

I was informed however that these monitors aren't that accurate but they have been at least consistent.

Bought a Uniden 105 UHF with inbuilt GPS and the GPS indicates that my speedo reads 1km/h fast . Sort of proves that speedo, radar and GPS are all in sync, at least for me.

I am running 16" x 275x 70 H/T's on GU rims. Can't let myself be done for speeding, as I couldn't live it down. :D

PS quite happy with the Uniden so far as it also has speed alert.
