hi again,
i've got a weird series diff housing which i dont know about.
its pumpkin housing is flat top and bottom, with the drain plug offset. it actually looks like the santana front. The spindles are like the stage 1's. except with no provision for cv bushes? came fitted with 4.7 diff gears. (dont know if original)
Could be a normal late model s111, but i didnt think they were made like this.
any ideas. Thanks

series diff housing

hi and thanks.
yeah its got the bearing for the shafts in the swivel ball and came with uj shafts. The spindles are like the stage 1's (ie they fit rangie hubs) but without any provision for cv bushes. its probably just a bitsa put together from a parts bin. the flat top and bottom threw me off, i didn't realise the stage ones had this.

All but the very first Stage 1s had the flat borrom housing. Rangies got it at the about same time too.
How you can tell if it really was from a Stage 1:
Diff centre (diff nose) is angled up more than a SIII
Hubs have 2 bearings the same size (same as a rangie) - not 2 different sized ones like a series.
My guess is that it was either a SIII diff that had the centre replaced with a Stage 1 centre, or a very late model SIII (non stage 1) that had the some of changes included. Diff nose angle will tell you which of those is true.
