Just Lifted my MK - Issues I Had
Just Lifted my MK - Issues I Had
Ey Guys,
Not sure if this is the right spot, but we'll see what happens.
I just lifted my 84 MK SWB 3.3L Patrol.
Did a 2' body lift. Went in pretty smooth all except for:
Had to extend fuel filler pipe..
The back body mounts, as the nuts were weldered to the chassis, I now need to find some long bolts with the same thread.
Not sure if it was a added extra to my truck by someone, but they had added 2 extra bolts and a brace to hold the body to the chassis, took about 10 mins to work out why the body would not lift... I have added some pics.

oh and a spellcheck for you.
those bolts are factory & actually are there & are still installed on new patrol to stop the body flying off the chassis in the event of a high speed accident when your othermounts tear through the floor

drill a 25mm hole saw hole in your panel near your tail gate above those rear bolts and drill out that welded nut and put a bolt the same as the rest of yours and a nuts straight in...
thats wat i did when i had my shorty body and its simple and easy to do.
my filler hose used to just fit with a 2 inch lift also....
cheers

God of Magnificant Ideas!
It needs to be unbolted and let loose and let the spline come out somewat ( shaft on fire wall on body and box on chassis ) so do that and tighten up if not done already.V8Patrol wrote:Hows the rag joint in the steering shaft ??????
( the bit between the steering box and the shaft thet comes through the firewall )

The rag joint will tollerate a 2 inch body lift fine, it wont tolerate a 3 inch body lift, you would need a longer joint

No , I just marked both sides of the joint (where the splines are) and tried to evenly adjust both ends till the dowel stops were back to there original position..I also had to remove the front cluch line from the body mount....MjWatt wrote:Cheers boys,
should i make up some joint to replace that joint between the body and the chassis that holds it all together on a roll?

Ah, I think Mj meant the extra pair of joints near your fuel tank, not the steering rag joint. Good tip for the rag joint though.muddyperils wrote:No , I just marked both sides of the joint (where the splines are) and tried to evenly adjust both ends till the dowel stops were back to there original position..I also had to remove the front cluch line from the body mount....
For the extra horizontal joints, I haven't heard of anyone doing anything about it. It'd certainly be safer and better piece of mind if you rigged something up. Probably not too hard if you're handy with a welder.
For the rag joint, even after pushing the joint together as far as it would go, my BL still stretched it a bit too far. After I wrecked the 3rd joint, I replaced it with something stronger

yeah I'm also on my third rag joint ( 2 inch lift ) keen to hear what you replaced it with....I also had to give the floor around the transfer gear stick a little lovin and I bent the stick a touch which did the trick. for the body retaining bolt a decent piece of chain will do the job, put the bolt through one end then up and through the round hole then back down the original bolt.
I've got a WEAPON OF MOSS DETRUCTION
