Overheating GU42TD
Overheating GU42TD
anyone had any experiences with a GU overheating.. mine has started to get very warm when under small loads.
when the temp gets to about 32 the a/c will switch off due to the water temp sensor...pain in the butt. the 4.8's and new 3.0's get a bigger radiator.
IMHO the radiator is not big enough, some do a high pressure water pump conversion, some add 15 ml of silicon fluid to the fan hub. some change thermostats or caps or add air deflectors so it appears to be a common problem.
this is why ARB or TJM dont make a high mount winch bar for GU's, too much restriction to airflow...
when the temp gets up a bit so i can test it, i will try the silicon trick.

thanks red, will give the fluid coupling a touch up. was planning to flow test the radiator just to make sure. I read somewhere a mob in Syd is doing a higer flow water pump , might try and track them down and have a chat as well. mine does the old - turn the AC off trick - last weekend comming back from woodpecker was a PITA with no air - gettig hot and being passed by all and sundry.. definately NOT HAPPY JAN stuff.
ando, i've heard you have to "O ring " all sorts of stuff so it sounds like a costly exercise for the high pressure water pump route.
we were out round birdsville on the roads doing around 80 kmh and as soon as the outside temp hit 32 the ac would start cutting out  .
some guys have gone back to the nissan bullbar [slightly different to the ARB bar ] and fitted smaller spotties to get around it.
P's me off, luckily it rarely does it off road !!
