we had a dual cab in our station in RFS in NSW. The only one actually.

It was good offroad, nice to drive, but handled like a boat with all the gear on, hoses, ladder, pump, water tank etc.

We were stationed at Kurnell, so sand was a daily play, and it did it with ease.

Sort of Defender like inside, basic stuff. Nothing flash.

Don't know if things have changed but when they were new...

They had a D60 front and rear, and were offered with either a:

2l 4cyl Perkins TD (who would buy that)
4l 4cyl Perkins TD
6.2??? Chev NA V8 Diesel

Prices ranged from 40k for a cab chassis to 130k+ for a fitted out bus (I'm sure they would be a lot more now).

Apparently the design was partly based on a landrover forward control (FC101).

they also ran a Dana transfer case i will try to find out which 1

the pinion nut on the rear diff has a tendency to come undone
i have herd this was due to the engine vibration frequency.

the buses with the self leveller do have a habit of tipping over

and i know some of the parts are pretty hard to come by since the mob that was making them closed their doors

but other than that not a bad rig

They had one as a service vehicle at Peabody Ravensworth Open Cut. The fitters said it was for ever breaking driveline components and costing the company lots of $$$'s.

more info on the driveline failures would be interesting
have heard vague rumors about gbox failures
most dealers dont want to talk about their shortcomings....

anyone know if a 15" rim will fit over the brakes on 8 stud 60/70's?

Cheers

Peter is correct, and 70HD are near on BOMB Proof, and the brake callipers are huge!!
Industry rumour is that OKA "ceased production to redevelope the vehicle, but will go back into manufacture at an unforseen time."

I have some specs on these and will post them next week.

Hey BJ one of the funniest offroad video clips I have ever seen was of an Oka going up Rocky Tk. Yes it was daylight and dry and the thing was bouncing around dangerously, you could see the heads of the driver and passenger almost smacking together it was rockin so much. A dude in my club has the clip I'll see if I can get it.
