Good link bogged.

Snarba - You can start an auto in drive (or any gear by simply bypass what is called (over here anyway) the neutral safety switch circuit that is a switch on the transmission that detects if the auto is in park or neutral or not. If it is in any other gear, the switch goes into "no start" and no power goes to the starter soleniod. Pretty simple really.

Disconnecting it does carry risks and people have been hurt very badly because of leaving autos in drive/reverse. Don't think it won't affect you though because it will...it happens to everyone and there was even a recent issue on the Rubicon Trail where a girl started the rig as it was sitting on the edge of an 8 meter cliff with tons of people below the ledge. She was lucky but still badly injured. If you're not a competitor, I recommend you don't mess with the neutral safety switch.

As for stall, the link Bogged gave should explain that. For our trail rig, we run an 1800 stall. For Becca's com rig a 3100 stall, for my comp rig 4200 stall, but will drop to 3700 in Feb. Remember, the more stall, the more heat you build because your converter is basically a oversized fluid clutch. the more the clutch slips, the more heat you build.

you need a momentary ON switch wired in parallel to your origional cut out switch on the box/shifter. This way, you CANT accidentaly start your car in drive or reverse.

I bypassed the NSS for about 1 year, so that I could start the motor if i stalled it on a hill. My brakes are all most useless with out vacuum (SP?)

I have with my rebuild replaced the NSS and made it work again for the SAFTY reasons.

As far as the converter I got a low stall 1200ish and love it.
