lt95 rattle when backing off
i had my lt95 rebuilt about 12 months ago, - new main shaft, a few gears and new sincros and shims, and well, basically anything that didnt look new was replaced. the transfer and center diff were deemed ok but needed shimming. The shifting is nice and backlash is, well, its a landrover...... Anyway my daily driving involves alot of hi way kms and when i'm traveling at speeds over 100 and backing off there is a large rattle (i can feel the floor vibrating), until the drive train takes up slack. where should i start looking? i have replaced the unis in the shafts and the sound is definately coming from the gearbox/transfer area. Any sudgestions where to start looking?

I have an LT77 gearbox with an LT230 transfer and mine does exactly the same thing.
Sounds like someone rolling a steel drum down a hill full or off-cut steel. Most off putting.
I suspect there's too much endfloat in the transfer case allowing too much play in the gear train.
I plan on changing the oil to see what drops out plus to see if fresh oil improves it.

The hand brake is working fine.

I tend to think you're right.
You can get the rattle to come and go by letting the throttle float between accelarate and coast. The rattle happens as soon as you lift off the pedal. If you let the speed decay without lifting right off it doesn't rattle.
Looks like another job to do.

what shoes? i pulled them out 4 months ago!!! i broke one of the retaining clips holding the shoes to the bacling plate and pulled them out as a temporary thing to stop them rattling. Mudlust, which end floats are you refering to, the box or transfer? can you check this without removing the box?
