most places with seel direct to the public, just call em ask is they have a trade counter and if they take cash ?
also if cut lengths are avail as some of the bigger places like horan wont cut lengths for ya.

RP steel in Bayswater sell direct to public, and cut to length, price per cut is charged of course.
Scrap bits are sold off by the weight, tho smallish bits are often "a dollar will do, etc "
always done right by me, anyway

Country steel in Hallams Rd, (just before the train tracks)
they will cut it to length, their prices are OK and are good guys.
if you want real cheap steel go to Australian steel in Abbots Rd Dandy, they are real cheap, but don't like cutting to size (and given the small amount you will want, you would be better off at Country steel)

www.steelsolutions.com.au is okay. you can order online. they cut it up and you pick up or they deliver for $30. not the cheapest or the best range but very convenient. i've always dealt with malouf steel and they've been good. the east side outlets should be pretty good to.

Country steel in Hallam like the others said are pretty good 40mm Nominal Bore x 3.2mm pipe is about $55 for a 6.5metre length.
Also Melsteel in Hallam i'm pretty sure they are a little cheaper and will also cut to size..
