5.12 Vitara R&P into Sierra diff housings
5.12 Vitara R&P into Sierra diff housings
Can someone tell me what needs to be done to fit the front Vitara R&P into Sierra diffs?
What if one already had a locker? Does it matter? What if the locker was a CIG, and what if it was an ARB?
Are there any issues with running the front R&P in the rear?

Ok nam , Outwith it i havn't seen this zook yet wheres the pics in return for the info ?
I hope its a red one or i'll be extremely disapionted
The 5.1 from the front vit work fine in the rear of the sierra.
You simply replace the ring onto the four pin sierra hemisphere,
and the pinion into the cast iron center of the seirra.
some guys use a spacer to realighn the ring gear so the bearings have the best support, most poeple i know don't,
It is important you use the shorter bolts of the two sets for the ring gear or they will bottom out before seating the gear,
I actually use the alloy cases from the vit as well, but there is no oil gallery for the pinion bearing on these , so prolonged use at highway speeds soon chews the rear pinion bearing out.
There are ones that have an oil gallery for the pinion bearing but these are extremy weak in the neck area and tend to separate there.
You will be using the bit with the locker in it , it makes no difference to the setup.
Mickbj can fill you in on the finer pionts he has done a couple recently.
Larry.
Ps if i was to biuld another zook i would go the series 3 hopper , and stay with the stronger and more available 3.9s- Depends on what you pay for your gears but $300-400 is a bit toward the series 3.
