What transfer for the MQ?
I want to auto the MQ sometime over the next few months.....
if i run the Turbo 700 non electronic version behind the V8.......
what transfer is the better option behind it....
i want to run something thats got similar ratios as now but later on want to be able to put crawler gears in it....
was thinking either GQ transfer or 60 series cruiser transfer?
this is only for my current patrol not for the mod project which will run a twin stick modded transfer.....

Yep 3.3-1 transfer gears from stock.4.3-1 and 4.9-1 gears available localy. Gears that i have never heard of a failure except for when they are run out of oil. The ability to do front and rear diggs. The only down side is they are constant 4wd. And as far as i know Haultech are the only ones making an adapter to go from the T700 to the LT230. And we havent worked out a shifter mount for them yet as we have not needed to on any of the adapters we have made so far.basketcase wrote:lt230, then you have the outputs matched up. Be wary of the t700, might end up costing you. Gq auto and transfer? Reputation as much stronger auto. Buying adaptor for v8 to auto is about $400, compared to t700 to tcase $1000+.

A worked t700 is $3750 from wholesale automatics but even then not in same league strength wise apparently- then u need adaptor to tcase + replace output shaft.

You should be able to get a whole rover with the gear under a $1000.
The transfer case will be strong enough. Thats what is in every single haultech buggy. I think there are things you can do to make then stronger but don't know if its needed. Ask tony, sam or adrian about that.
I don't know about the auto. Might come down to whats available and cost. You should be able to get a whole rover with the gear under a $1000. Don't know how much T400's go for but it would probably need a shift kit if your going to drive it on road, where as the zf would not.

basically, wat im after is a cheap way to get an auto under this MQ has im building my new one and i want all my money to go into that...
this one i just want to improve abit for this years comps as my new one wont be ready till TTC next year......
so i would love auto with a little better gearing.... will save me CVS cause i wont be gunning it, ill be much less on the go peddle and gearing should be better.....

replacin the output shaft is only for the hilux transfer case from memory.
The output shaft on the t700 to suit the lt230 doesnt need to be modified at all which is one less thing to worry about.
this rig, i just want the cheapest option to get abit better crawl and to improve my CVs lasting time......

The LT230 was fitted to all Range Rovers from 1985-1989 (then switched to the borg-warner chain-drive case with a viscous-coupling centre and no diff lock), Land Rovers from Late 1985 until presently, and Discoveries from 1989 until presently. All had the same ratios. Some disco T-cases (2000-2003ish) didn't have a centre diff lock but it can be retrofitted.
The auto boxes used with the LT230 were:
Torqueflite 727 (3 speed auto) - Range rovers - not sure of years??? This might be a good option - this box is strong, but a bit of a slug behind a 3.5L V8 - so rangies with this box are very cheap. Some sources say the torquflite was introduced in 1983 - not sure if the LT230 was available then???
All others had the ZF HP22.
Also LT77, LT77s, LT85 and R380 5 speeds were used with the LT230.

Hilux Gear drive tcase???? Cheap as, reportedly strong, and plenty of gearing choices.
