Relocating diff on a MWB LC
i'm putting 35's ETs under the middy, i think i will need to move the front diff forward 30mm, (yes i have the tires so i'm not going smaller)
but would like to know if there is anything that will be affected,
and how much lift/clearance will be needed, im not worried about grinding, or B/L. it has about 2 1/2 inches already.
And yes i have searched and got most of the info, just wanting more before i start.

I did exactly that on my 75 front diff. The driveshaft is a bit overextended with more splines showing but so far it hasn't fallen off. No clearance problems with the tie rod, etc. The sway bar mounts sit a bit cockeyed but there is enough give in the rubber mounts.
I also have a 50mm lift. On 8" wide rims, my 35" BFG muds still rub a little on full lock.

I'm doing this soon too..
I'm going to be putting 35" cooper muddies under my pzj70 SWB cruiser in the next 2 weeks. am waiting for the bodylift and lifted springs to arrive so if you come across any problems please post em up.

well i have moved the diff forward and removed the swaybar as it is bent and i found a dent in the front diff from the swaybar(hit something) so time for some diff protection, as for moving the diff was very easy the only problem so far is that under flex the steering dampner bolt just rubs on the steering arm but will fix that soon.
so on to the boby lift / gaurd cutting.

Just one question though.. are you reversing the front springs or redrilling them??
I've heard of people reversing the spring packs (ie: Not a shackle reversal) to get about 30 mm, is this the 'prefered' way of doing it?? Do the military wraps on the springs affect anything??
Might be a noobie question but i thought i'd throw it out anyway..

i thought 75 series springs were centered pin, so reversing did nothing... dunno about middies
the military wrap, for safety sake, should go to the solid mount, not hte shackle end, because this feature is there in case your spring snaps, it'll at least keep the axle in the vicinity of your vehicle while you stop.

i was reading posts on ih8mud.com and believed that with the swb/mwb 70 series that you could reverse the front spring packs to gain an extra 30-35mm, hence they would be offset. I dunno if this true or not, i'll have a look at my swb tonight.

i just had a quick look at the springs and it would apear that it was central (i have moved diff forward )maybe wrong, but i think it would still be easyer to drill the spring perches rather than turn the springs around.
the drive shaft still lookes good no splines showing at all.
but it has been touching the cross member so i think i will have to mod that next.

just measured??
I just ran a tape over my springs and they measured 545mm from the front eye to the axle housing, 500mm from the rear eye to the axle housing?? So i dunno but it seems like its not centred to me? I'll check my landcruiser manual when I get home. I think its got those dims in it.
But then again because of the miltary wraps, it'd probably be better to redrill the perches anyway..
