LPG for my 3.9 1994 disco.
Im looking at gettin sill tanks put in and removing my main tank and puttin 3 scuba tanks under it, and if that works out to be too expensive.. ill mount it in the boot but would rather not due to limited space there.
Ive done a little search and done some research.
Im lookin at who can do a LPG installation in brisbane/gold coast that is recommended for that model car i have.
I read on another forum that the owner removed the fuel tanks himself and saved himself a fair bit from the installation costs.
Im hoping to minimise costs on an LPG installation and to try to find some disco sill tanks which there arnt many around :(
Hope someone can help/suggest places to look up.

Hi Tom, you will only get 2 tanks in place of the main tank giving useable capacity of approx. 70 ltrs. I have this setup in my rangie with twin sill tanks (90 ltrs combined ) , i did the install myself and sourced all the parts 2nd hand which cost me approx $100 plus a few sundry items. As you said the sill tanks for a disco are rare 2nd hand and rangie ones dont fit although very similar in shape, easiest to locate would be the pocket tank that fits in the rhd side just below the filler but these are only 35 - 40 ltrs. Cheapest lpg tank setup is the 3 scuba tanks that fit in the rear of the disco on the floor with a false floor fitted on top which i believe you loose about 75- 100mm of floor height. Start looking for impco parts like a model L converter and either a model 200 or 225 gas mixer, these are very reliable and common to find ( check ebay). There is a guy on here Torden i think that recently did an lpg install so do a search and see what you come up with. Below is a pic of my twin tanks with cradle.

If you find a pocket tank, you could fit a sill tank to the lhd side and have it pump into the pocket tank, other wise you will a plumbing nightware with 2 fuel pumps and lots of fuel lines for inlet and return to each tank. This way you still have full fuel capacity and lower expense sourcing only 1 sill tank.

i did an LPG conversion on my Rangie a few years back running the scuba tanks in the rear, if i remember correctly you lose about 200mm of floor height and get about 65-70 litres in them. After getting qoutes of around $2500 for the install, i decided to do it myself for around $400 (tanks cost me $300). Then not happy with filling up every 200ks i pulled it out and gave it away, sold the motor and installed a desiel, now i'm happy

Speak to Chuck about the tanks I have a set that need re-testing that you are welcome to - it includes the mounting cradle - it was a kit for a disco that I used on my rangie. You need to decide on what type of converter you are going to run - you have about 3 chocies.
1. OMVL style
2. Impco Style
3. Landi Style
I would buy one secondhand and get a seal kit for it from a gas supplier.
Basically I think you should do the whole install yourself and get an installer to sign off on it - The install would probably cost you $500 - $700 worth of parts depending on how much the tank re-test was.

Im lookin at gettin a impco converter 2nd hand like said.. and puttin a seal kit thru it..
Buy new tanks as they'll have a longer date for retesting.
fabricate up the cradles to where they need to be etc
Do i need to get an aftermarket maf or something to prevent backfire?
Basically if someone could just give me a little list of exactly what i need for the best way to get the gas system to work and what size tanks to fit under the belly in the sills.. OR in the main tank area and ill run a pair of sill tanks.

You will think twice about the new tank bit when you price them, they will over $1000 plus cost of cradle. Retesting can cost half of that though mine cost me $440 ( this depends on type of valves fitted) Re testing will give same life as new. Buying new components you wont end up saving much only labour costs. Add to that cost of sill tanks at about $450-$500 each you easily see why they quote upwards of $25000 for a drive in/ out conversion. The hardest part for you will be plumbing the fuel lines, with efi and sill tanks you will need 2 x pump, main fue line, return fuel line, solenoid tap for tank selection etc.
