OTWAYS NAVRUN- 18/19th, March 2006 (Vic)
Navrun is on again for 2006. This year we will be staging 4 events all over Victoria. This year Navruns will be treated as seperate events.
There will be more prizes and trophies right up to 10th place. All events are also fully catered for, and yes you can bring the wife and kids.
The first one for this year will be held in the Otways State Forest ( yes, it isn't all National Park ). Two full days of comp; & breakfast & dinner provided.
Basically any stock standard 4wd vehicle can enter to the modified vehicle. There will be no advantage. Know your navigation and you'll be right.
More info on the Otways event, and our other Navruns, Navnites, Amazing Race and Cliffhanger events can be found on the web:
www.navrun.com.au
or ring Rudi on 03 9789 6985.
Cheers Steve Hobbs & Rudi Paoletti

Hey Navsters,
Rude Dude and I have just come back from setting up Navrun - and had local assistance from Darren McRae from ATS4x4 Geelong.
What you can expect. Assuming no rain then mud terrains and all terrains will be fine. There's only 2 tracks where very big boggers will help but you will manage on muddies/all terrains. As for the bog holes the water is not deep and I really don't think anyone will have radiator or mud problems. They are there to be enjoyed...
No dents or scratches to report at our end.
Lots of dust. Saw a group of 7 deer and accidentally ran over a pig, I was accelerating and swerving at the time and accidentally ran over it - dam did it squeal.
Camping ground is very nice - better than caravan parks. River is there but overgrown. Toilets are clean and not smelly (I managed them with a hang over). There is no water or electricity. Very easy to get cars and vans into camping ground.
Bent my track rod and I have a pic with both front wheels pointing inward on full lock. Hmmm, I wonder if I should make you do it too...! But when I went to use my winch to straighten it I found my battery died at the same time. Good one! Can't roll start an auto, wheels pointing together like legs crossed .. Thanks Darren for the jump start and winching under jumper leads.
Am fitting spare track rod and dual batteries before the weekend..
Make sure you have plenty of fuel. I used a complete Tank (90 litre) just on location and used a Jerry can to get back to servo. But bear in mind, avoiding pigs can consume a lot of fuel...
Not much to see for spectators. Late minute entries are OK if you bring a digital camera as we have just enough for the ones who have signed up. Can pay on the day. Details on www.navrun.com.au
It's going to be a lot of fun.

just letting other competitors know, if your not the nutters who live close to this one, and you live down the peninsula like us we are getting the sea road ferry accross. It will be quicker for us than trying to battle friday night city traffic along with road closures due to the games.
the cost for us one way is $64.00 this covers two adults two children and the car. yeah maybe a bit dearer than fuel but by the time we pay city link and get there we figue we are better off. The last boat leaves at 7pm from sorento. Check out www.searoad.com.au for more info.
ps. hey rude dude why dont you leave home at the same time and we will see if we beat you, if we do you have to give us bonus points.

Was a good event, second day especially. We spent a lot of time looking for more than two letters on the photo stick map stage - sneaky bastard!!!
Ended up coming 6th, not bad for a first time.

6th place is great for a first time Rangie!
So does all the gear such as lockers, bigger tyres etc help on an event like this, or is it more so on navigation knowledge.
Im not worried on the track conditions at all, just curious.

Navruns are designed for standard vehicles to enter as long as they have recovery gear. None of the tracks on the weekend were difficult (although it would have been different if it was wet).
You do require some degree of nav knowledge but it's not too tricky. The pajero challenge is far more difficult as far as nav questions go.

the track up to the pole with the numbers on it would be hard if vechile not setup right, i know a few people couldn't do it.
But apart from one 100m section the driving was easy

Yeah, easy way was to send the poor nav (ie me) running up the hill to the top.Ruffy wrote:yeah that was a good hill, but there was any easy way to it so you didn't have to do the hill if you couldn't
