45 series and 75 series pieced together

Post by Utemad »

Hi all,

My brother has a 1982 FJ45 Landcruiser troopcarrier which is stock apart from the 351 V8 (Marks adapter kit) and rear air locker. He has a front disc conversion but that was done using 45 series parts.
Basically it is in reasonable condition other than the syncros in the 4 speed gearbox and the rusty body.
He wants to know what would be interchangeable if he got a 75 series troopy with a good body but buggered engine/mechanicals. Would an early 75 series be similar. I know they still had the 2F/H engines in the early models (his was a 2F originally).
Are 75 series diff assemblies wider than a 45 series?
Are the leaf springs the same?
He would like a 5 speed gearbox too. Are all 75 series 5 speed?

This is not his daily driver so it doesn't need to be a weekend change over.

Thanks for any info/opinions you can give.

diffs are the same width

believe the 75 series would have vented rotors

springs are not the same (spring pin offset are different)

As for mechanicals all 75's were 5 speed and the gearbox was tilted 7 Deg on the bellhousing to lower the front drive shaft height so the gearbox x-members is made to suit this tilt and the holes in the floor for the gear and transfer shifter suit this tilt. I had the same prob when i built up a 75 ute and already had the gearbox adaptor . had to get the Marks 7 Deg tilt belhousing.

i believe the diff's are wider in the 75series.
the late 40 series has ventd rotors and are the same as the 75 series....DBA151 is the part number.
springs are definatly different

their the same... thats why you use 75 series tie/relay rods in a 40 series power steering conversion instead of cutting down 60 series ones
