Dyna Gearbox from Marks4wd any good to replace a G52??
I'm going to be putting a 1UZ in my 93 Hilux and worried about the standard 230,000km old slush box holding up... Has anyone done this conversion and if so how has the box been since it's been put in??? Any help is appreciated...
I've got 1 behind a 2.8 turbo.
Some people say they're no good and have a sloppy gearshift. The gearstick does move further forward and back but it goes sideways a lot less. I reckon it's easier to go from 2-3 and 4-5. When I jump in our standard work hilux I think it has a sloppy gearshift.
It was definatly easier to go and buy a gearbox from Marks and put it straight in than stuff around rebuilding gearboxs to get the 5.15 ratio first gear.

Allways been a TOYOTA man.
Now I'm old and grumpy as well.

I think his already had the stronger R series box in it (as all v6 4runners have).dandownunder wrote:Mate, you should get in touch with TWISTY_TOY on this forum or on 4wd monthly, he's put the V8 in his with his origional hilux box, think he had over 200,000k's on it and it's been fine.
Cheers
Dan.
The most economical gearbox for the 1uz is the auto it's bolted to... then find an auto to tcase adaptor.
If you really want a stronger manual, source a r150 (or is it r151?) box from v6 4 runner or any Surf, or Bundera. But you will need to change ur transfer case to the chain driven one that goes with the 4runner/Surf box.
If you don't want to do that, buy the Marks box. It is same strength as r150 above (same internals but different gearing) will bolt up to ur transfer case (without needing chain drive case).
It's every Hilux owners dilemna when doing an engine conversion.... having to upgrade the driveline to handle the power.
I don't really like the idea of an auto in a 4x4 unfortunately... This was the first way I was going to go, I did manage to find an adapter to suit the standard auto to transfer for $900 but I really would prefer a manual... So is a r150 just as strong? either way once I source a box and transfer and rebuild them I probably wouldn't be to shy of buying an already rebuilt dyna box from marks... plus the 5.15 first gear would really help the 1UZ getting off the line considering where the motor makes it's power and there's 35's under it... I think I know what way to go... a little more pricey but a lot less stuffing around...
Just a thought... considering the price of the box from marks... after a bit of calling around i can get a r150 box and transfer for around $600 out of a low km car so i would be saving more than just a few $ if i went that way... does anyone know how easily it will bolt up under there taking into consideration crossmember and output shaft alignment with diffs etc... I haven't bought the bellhousing adaptor yet so that's not going to be a prob... If the box is more than just a little longer or shorter and i have to modify the tailshafts to suit, that will eat into a bit of the money I was trying to save... once again thanks guys... just trying to make an educated decision on which way to go...
That's good to know, I was going to get a 1 piece rear shaft made up, I've heard that about centre bearings....
Does anyone know how to tell a R151 from a R150 without opening it up?none of the wreckers I've talked to have been able to tell. I know it's on the firewall but the boxes are all out the cars...
Thanks

Yeah, a couple of people with V8 conversions that I've talked to have said they have no problems with the G52... I try and "fit and forget" when I can. Just don't like the idea of being stranded somewhere in the chance it does let go... I managed to track a R150 down cheap enough... anyone need a G52 and gear driven transfer???
