which is the best doner vehicle for a buggie??????
O.K seeing as how Spider hill is my home turf(see oz rock) i,m keen to start a buggie /truggie but ATM i have a two 2x4 lux's at my disposal 2 sets of 4x4 springs a gear driven lux t/case , a set of 4x4 diffs 4.3's and 2 rear 2x4 diffs also 4.3's to use or should i get a 86 rangie or something .I'm sure with all the newbie buggie builders on the up and coming any info will be very useful , and remember doner vehicles not doner parts off this that and the other.
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

If you want to use the setup that has worked in many of the haultech buggies (Rover V8, ZF Auto and LT230 transfer), then you need to buy a pre 1989 auto range rover or a 1989-current disco as a donor vehicle.
Tony has proven that the LT230 is basically indestructable (if assembled correctly), the ZF seems to hold up well, and the rover V8 is light and with good power and torque in the right places.
Then you can either run the toyota axles or rover axles with the toyota centre conversion. Or something more exotic like D60s or mogs if you want/need the extra strength.

I am only aware of the one he did at the PUOSU. Which he said was due to an incorrectly shimmed diff centre, and running completely different ratios front-back for a reasonable distance of flat driving. Hence the reason for the comment about being indestructable if assembled correctly.redzook wrote:hasnt tony done 2 lt230's?ISUZUROVER wrote:If you want to use the setup that has worked in many of the haultech buggies (Rover V8, ZF Auto and LT230 transfer), then you need to buy a pre 1989 auto range rover or a 1989-current disco as a donor vehicle.

Plus you couldn`t even drive ya jeep up a freeway with hitting a rock so I don`t think you are going to drive even a buggy up some of the rocks out there

Either way - AFAIK all the haultech buggies are running LT230s and they have been extremely reliable. Stronger than a hilux T-case anyway.Guts wrote:I remember him cutting the bash plate out so he could fix the tcase before round 1
