Rocky sports and RV whats the difference
Gday folks i am currently looking for a 1993 and up rocky, i have converted from the suzi sierra, being too slow and small and bugger all features, to a turbo diesel rocky. but i have looked for hours online and on this website trying to find the difference between the sports and the RV and cant find anything. Is it worth getting the sports are they much better? they are hard enough to find as is let alone a specific model. i am forced to buy one interstate aswell because there are hardly any here in WA. any help would be great. thanks
All of the Independant Post 1993 models that we have in Australia are virtually the same.
In the UK there were a few variations but we never saw most of them.
I have a 1993 SE RV Turbo. Model Code is F78BMHT.
Floody on here has an Aug/1993 Rocky, although it is an RV model but not an 'SE'. I dont think our cars have any differences though ... except for his extra rear tail lights that were left overs
They all have the 2.8 Turbo Intercooled Diesel engine, IFS, Coil spring rear end, Sunroof, Air Con, Rear Limited Slip Diff, Power Steering, Sports Road Wheels (15x7" Sunnies), Tacho, Larger style flares, Sidesteps, Towbar, etc etc.
They also have a two tone paint job (except the all Silver models) with silver around the wheel arches, on the bumpers and various other parts. The main colours I have seen are White/Silver, Maroon/Silver and Green/Silver. Any others??
They are very hard to find mate.. I looked for ages last year and only found one that was in great condition. If you find a good one snap it up!
This one looks really good!
I am really pleased with mine so far and would reccomend to anyone!

Better offroad?? Is that a challenge You're on
I can now go so many more places with my lift Wait til them MTRs next week
The pre-1993 models had no lights in the bumpers, only in the rear panels, and when the models changed they had leftovers so you got them
Just more maintenence and more stuff to break
But all in all... there is no real difference in the models greyzook.. just find one and buy it

The post-93 models didnt come out with a live front axle... I know they are better offroad, but IFS does provide more comfort when on the blacktop. The other benefits of the F78 models outweighed just a live front axel setup.
I was thinking of a SAS in the future

thanks guys, yeah i am looking at the one you gave me a link for hot4ok , there is also another one in brizzie but its 11500 a little too much considering i gotta transport it to WA. Is this link one of the good ones with the good suspension (IFS)? What would you guys do in terms of first mods? Anything that comes standard that i should rip off or change? Cheers fellas. Greyzook or soon to become Greyrock
Yeah all the 'F78' models have coil springs in the rear and IFS up front. Much comfier on road, but are a touch behind in (front axle) offroad capability.greyzook wrote:Is this link one of the good ones with the good suspension (IFS)?
But countering that, the F78 coil rear end flexes better than the leaves in the pre-1993 models..
First mods can be raised coils in the rear and wind up the torsion bars at the front to gain more lift (about 40mm is common). With this you can also buy new shocks..I bought some Rancho's and it made so much difference! You could then get some nice offroad tyres for it and she'll be all set!
A free flowing exhaust from the turbo back makes it breathe a little better and provides an increase in torque and power and you could even fabricate or modify a snorkel to fit up to it. (My next project )
