Tyre Choice and Offset.
Tyre Choice and Offset.
Ok, yes I have searched but have not found a definite answer to my questions. The photo shows a typical track for me add in some rocks and make the track muddier and that is where I will be going. Budget is limited at this stage so my choice is M/T or Mongrels. It only drives on the highway to get me off road they will be 31" and I have a mini spool for the rear and a Lock Right to go in the front. 2" suspension lift and extended shackles almost ready to go in. Body lift if I really need it. The ultimate plan may be to SPOA at some stage with 33" but I do not have a tow rig so 31" it is.
Assuming cost the same which gives better traction for getting my zook up rocky/muddy tracks?
When getting the rims 15"x8" do I just go to the wreckers and ask for F100 rims? Is there any different offsets for the F truck? Obviously I want full lock/flex without scrubbing and the extra width also.
If anyone can be bribed to help me get the Lock Right in I will hose you in alcohol and name my next child after you. I should have a full workshop available.
Any help would be great.

too run 31" tyres you'll need a 2" bodylift, and with your F100 rims look for rims with 3.5" back spacing (from mounting surface to edge of rim). Should be enough thats what I have on my NT and I have minimal rubbing. Hope this helps
ps. if you can't find f100 rims, "Speedys" Wheels go for about $50 each
also some F100 rims have a small centre hole, so they won't fit over your hubs.

ronoor is that a 2" body lift or just a suspension lift? Or Both?
3.5" Backspace, you know I just measured mine and that is what I have. They are also 8" I thought they were 7" for some reason.
I only bought it a few months ago and have been feeling my way around for a while. Great place to have found.
What tyres would run better, I only ask because I have heard a few people say that muds are better on rock? Are the Mongrels going to be better everywhere?

How did you measure them, they may still be 7".

Oh well new rims too.
I had budgeted for $5K for the whole thing. The car was $3K, I put on a soft top $495, lockers $600 not installed yet(please help), body lift $200(to come maybe) and the tyres wheels hopefully another $1200, harness $99 still to go in also. There is always a hundred little things to go in that always add up. Pretty happy to get such a good zook so cheap to start with though.

Mach,
we got a LWB NT runnin 31 coopers on the speedy 8" rims, he needs body lift in addition to the 2" spring lift he runs, jams under flex with the torsion bar off.
Antt used to run mongrels under his vit in the brisbane area, so he should be able to give you a reasonable idea of their performance in your use. Comparison may be hard without specifying the MT your looking at.

BTW i got a couple of f truck rims sitting at home if u want them.

Thanks for the info. I will see if I can get 7"s and try that first as I would like to get away without the bodylift if possible. Money is always an issue and there is only so much time available anyway. Barwork is very important at the moment for me as I pretty much ripped off the RHS flares and gave the rear bumper a great work out last weekend.
geez mate. 10.5 tyres on a 5.5 rim?
what do YOU think?
sure it might seem to be ok, but increased tyre wear, risk of damage to the tyre... rims are a lot cheaper than tyres.
go get some 7" sunnies before you roll a tyre and hurt something.

If you are not scared to cut it, then you can make 31's fit with only 2 inch spring lift and extended shackles. You will also keep it lower too, so more stable. I have speedy desert rat 15x8 rims with -28 offset and on these i run 32x11.5 tsl/sx swampers. I think that these rims are the largest offset rims readily available to fit a zook (5 x 5.5 pcd). I used to run 31 MTR's and 31 BFG muds. Either of these tyres would be good if you do intend driving a bit on the road, but if you only wheeling pretty local and not daily driving it go something more offroad biased. Or just have two sets of tyres, crappy road tyres and offroad tyres for the weekend.
If you have any questions about what cutting is required to fit without BL, PM stumped as his is getting done now.
Layto....

I just went out the back to have a look at cutting and realised that it is still in pieces at a mates place. Both diffs out for the lockers.
I may go that way it sounds like a good idea and I will need wider flares anyway. Very cheap fix.
I am going for Mongrels as it is not a Daily drive, I may use it to duck down town occassionaly but not often. Zooks don't do mach 1 so the tyres are cheap and should hold together at the Zook Speed Limit.
