For a much cheaper option, you can do it yourself:

I did mine myself. Doesn't take long - couple of hours (even less with good tools and the right size hole saw!).

You will need:-

- 10m of wire
- 3 x single globe holders + globes (I used Narva)
- 2 x double globe holders + globes
- a hole saw and file

NOTE: The orange indicator globes (bayonet type) are for a Commodore and will have offset lugs - just file one down slightly to fit it into the holder.

Here is some helpful hints:

you'll need to modify the globe holders as follows:

- trim the outer rim so it actually fits inside the tail light mould
- the "lugs" that are used to secure the globe in place (twist lock) will need to be trimmed down because the lug gap is smaller than the thickness of the plastic on the light mould

Both of the above are done in about 5 secs with a stanley knife.

Other tips:
- get the correct sized hole saw to match the Narva fittings (I didn't, so it took a bit of stuffing around to "expand" the hole to fit the Narva holder - only out by about 1mm)
- you'll need a small file to file out the lug locators after drilling the holes
- as above, trim the "flange" bit around the globe holders by about 1mm (you'll see what I mean - the globe holder won't fit in the overall mould unless slightly trimmed. This also highlights the importance of drilling the holes dead centre). The flange does nothing anyway.
- as above, trim the actual width of the lug to widen the "gap"
- you'll need to file down the lug on the Orange light bulbs (they are incorrectly offset for a straight fit)

Don't throw yer money away ...use it on things you could better spend it on and DIY as per GU4800's post above. I went the DIY road as per the above URL and couldn't be happier...no probs, works faultlessly, even after a fair amount of rough/corrugated travel.
Cheers
Andy

I know there are a few excelent articles on how to convert the standard non-operating lights for little more than $20, but since one of my lights was cracked and needed to be replaced I figured I'd just buy the working replacements. For future reference here are the part#s for the GU III.
  • L/H - 226555-VC327
    R/H - 226550-VC327

These are as viewed from the back of the car, ie L/H = passanger side.

They cost $163.58 each, trade price.

Are these purchased at local Nissan dealers as working tailights? If so, that is not a bad option if you have cracked/damaged ones. Pretty reasonable price for a genuine article.

I know this is a Nissan thread, but anyone know if Mitsubishi Pajero NM/NP jap spec taillights are available here? A mate wants to do his Paj the same, but the Aussie spec Paj does not have reflectors in the dummy tailights so simply fitting a bulb is not an option (P.S. I have tried Ebay, but no listing recently).

I got those lights from Blackburn Nissan and they come complete with globes and wiring back to the plug. The passanger side plugs straight in and everything works, but there are only 2 wires on the drivers side so additional wiring needs to be run accross.

Can't help you with the Mitsu lights, but if you find a helpful spareparts guy at a dealership he might be able to help you out.
