Wheel bearings

Post by rhymus »

Read lots of posted info on wheel bearings and adjustment. Checked and re-adjusted mine yesterday following advice read here and in my factory manual. My question is: When I stop after driving the hubs are reasonably cool but after sitting about 5 minutes or so they are are very warm. I reckon I've got the adjustment right. Is this temp. change normal?
The hubs changed temp. about the same amount before adjusting them when there was slight play in them. Just hope I haven't got them too tight.

Any advice?

Mate,
I had the same problem in my MQ recently. I've not long changed the front bearings in my MQ and a friend of mine helped me and passed on some valuable knowledge. I'm glad he helped me as he said to just do them up just finger tight or less (just enough so you feel resistense on the nut). Otherwise I would have stuffed it right up.

Anyway....

The heating up of the hubs, I found, was transferred through the disc the pistons in the front calipers not releasing the disc properly effectivly leaving my foot on the brake. Caliper overhaul kit required.

Do you think this could be heat contucted through to the hub from the discs?

Just a thought.
