Dual Air Intake

Was just after some pics or ideas on dual air intake into the engine. mines a 6.5 chev desiel and i am going to run dual snorkel and dual air boxes, the problem is getting it into the motor. At the moment i have made up an adapter but when i put the rubber elbows on they hit the bonnet, they sit about 2inches to high. Just after some other idesas as to what i can do.
In the pics you can see the intake i made (excuse the mess, photo was taken about an hour after the motor was put in), and the air boxes i am using.

I think what you need is something like a V8 filter housing with dual intakes(opposite sides) to which you can hook up ducting to your twin snorkles.

6.5, I've seen a dual intake, standard, on an American hi-po car, might have been an older Pontiac Trans-Am/ Mopar or similar. My guess would be early to mid 70's. You mite get sumthin from American street hi-po shop. Thats best guess, sorry.

marks adaptors makes a cast alloy air intake hat for the 6.2/6.5 chev that has a 3.5 inch intake dia ( they also supply a rubber hose adaptor to suit 3.5-3inch duct work for the snorkels ). not sure if they do a dual intake but it wouldn't hurt to ask them. if they don't, it wouldn't be to hard to modify there single intake to dual.
they charge $125 for the intake hat, $29.50 for the rubber hose adaptor or you can buy the kit for $155 ( includes hose clamps as shown in pic below ). i have the kit myself ready to go on my 6.2 and are also thinking about running dual snorkels so will be modifing mine in the near future.

The alloy one is bit expensive if you have to go and modify it, easiest is to get a ford/ holden v8 housing, a couple of gal downpipe fittings from bunnings ( in the size to fit the hose), a few rivets and a bit of silicone and away you go !

My inlet manifold is the turbo one so the Marks adapter won't fit. I thought about a single airbox on top of the motor but would prefer a donaldson style air filter, may have to do some research on air filters and airboxes.

yeah you could do what you described by using a holden/ford housing, couple of gal fittings etc and some rivets but i want mine to look as if it was there from factory and not just stuck on at a later date. but that's just me. each to there own i suppose.

the marks intake is very similar to the gas style intakes for dual fuel cars, so it may even pay to check some of them out at the wreckers etc as you maybe able to modify a couple of them to suit what you need.
you could also get a small adaptor machined to suit the marks intake and your turbo manifold, ie flat alloy plate say 10mm thick, hole bored through center for intake, 4 mounting holes for manifold bolts and then have the marks intake tig welded to the plate so it is a nice one piece job.
easily removed etc......
