Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Has anyone rebuilt one of these and how the f#@k do you get the worm shaft ball bearings back in. They support the screwed shaft in the piston assy. The book says not to remove the wormshaft (thats probably why ) but I had to replace the seal in the valve body so there must be a way of getting the bearings back in. Otherwise I will have to get another one from the wreckers $$$$

I have done mine awhile ago, but haven´t taken pics of the job .
It took me almost all day to figure out how it works and then I was able to put it back together, basically you have to insert the shaft, then drop balls (1 by 1 / 1 after another) into it and spinning the shaft slowly which will allow the balls to find there way in, while you are doing so, don´t leave gaps between balls while spinning shaft, this will ensure you get all the balls back in, then fill up the U/bridge section with remaining balls and bolt it back on to the piston (or whatever it´s called).
It is a little more complicated than that, but mess around with it for a while until you understand how it works.

for this section i used a small amount of grease to hold the balls in U/bridge section with remaining balls and bolt it back on to the piston (or whatever it´s called).
just put a small amount of grease to hold the balls but not to much i have done this to 3 steering boxes now so i have 3 boxes for spares and you can buy the seal kits from ebay quite cheep

The allen key socket you need to remove (to get the piston out) on the top is rooted , got the sh#ts and tried to carefully drill it out but no good so it looks like a trip to the wreckers. Thanks for the replies

You do realize that a trip to the wreckers would probably cost you about $500/$800?????

Yup - the 80 series power steering parts are starting to get low on supply pushing the prices through the roof. Don't expect to get out of this cheaply!

yep best price was $440 I think I will try and helicoil it if I can and just buy new plunger parts.
