i would like to know how much u can chop the chassis of a BJ73, heres the catch WITHOUT having to move the rear seats, is it possible??
Also about how much it would cost to chop the chassis, convert to a soft top and mayb even a rollcage (well it would need one to keep chassis strength), approx prices or exact would be good. (i need an estimate on how much i need to save!!)

aza.... aza.... aza.... hope you writting this down ..... you can cut about 500mm approx off give or take a couple of mm..... you would be converting it into a dual cab right? they only problem is that you would have to modify the leafs to a quarter eliptic set up, if you dont know what that is ask bubs... this will make your righave a sh1t load of wheel travel at the rear, but it will also increase your roll over factor so i wouldnt load it up with your girly friends just to show off cos it could end up in tears you will also have to modify you front leaf packs to compinsate for the extra wheel travel... if i were you i would stick with the easy stuff first then experiment later cos you know aswell as i do you have limited funds to play with so use them wisely first of all go out and buy a middy work shop manual as you can get the ideas and see the picks of the standard set ups and work out other ideas from there the elliptic conversion would cost more then just beefing up the leaf pack with longer, softer leafs..... like ive said keep lookin over bubs shoulder and ask questions cos i can only help you

Ruggers im guessing it would be a couple of hundred without a rollcage that is, not sure of acturlly price, round 300$ im guessing

don't chop the chassis. there is FA overhang anyway.
look at matt's fj73 (good rear departure angle already):
http://tufftoys.net/matthew/fj73-zookrun1.jpg
find a bj73 with a removable FRP hard top like it; and either build a new cabin roof for it, chop the FRP hard top (like gordon below), or get a soft top and cage.
my friend has a soft top with chopped down rear doors if you're interested.

the problem with gettin a bundy in the first place is that they run hilux runnnin gear and isnt as strong as the middy runnin gear as it is all cruiser runnin gear plus aza wont know his left foot to his right foot so hed brakeit pretty quick

diesel bundys have R151F gearbox (same as current 100 series NA diesel) and split transfer case like late 4x,6x,7x cruisers, but with 2.3:1 low range transfer gears, sure the motor sucks so bolt in a M series 6 cylinder petrol or a 1HZ (need change at least gearbox input shaft and bellhousing) or a 3L with turbo or 1KZ-T bolt straight in. the rear diff in the later bundys is the heavier duty 8" as used in front of 80/100 series, and rear of turbo and V6 4runner/hilux, obviously not as bulletproof as the 9.5" but still very strong, they will only break if abused. 'hilux running gear' is not a bad thing, the hilux stuff is tuff as.
I'm running twin air lockers and 35's on my bundy (stock 2.4 turbo motor) and it's slow as a wet week but cheap to lift (alomst free if you can find old 80 series springs), and since it looks like he has a budget it could be better spent on lift, lockers, winch etc, than pointless cosmetic work.
my opinion is worth what you've paid for it ;)

Aza those mods will cost heaps unless you can do them your self. Best leaving the 73 as it is as they are a formidable beast in the bush as they are and the 73 is handy for the extra room . If you really want a shorty it would be best to sell your 73 (if youve got one ) and buy a 70 .You would be hitting the dirt a whole lot sooner .
Also a word of caution on soft tops. I know they look fun but in winter you freeze and in summer on really hot days you have to have them on otherwise you get burnt .There is only a few days a year when you can go topless. The other point is you lose a lot of security and you are constantly on guard against thieves . That was my experience with my jeep.
By the way my 73 series pulled a 100 series out of the sand on the beach TWICE last weekend . The 100 had 15 lb in his tyres and lockers all round . I had 15 lb in the tyres and worn out lsd and I could still drive around him to manouvre.

Jake fuel consumption in the bundy on 35's is pretty ordinary, around 13l/100km average, can go as good as 11l/100km by keeping the highway speed down to around 90, but just driving around the suburbs it gets greedy, around 14 - 15.
still a lot better than you could ever do with a petrol so I live with it.

thanks for the feedback, ok new plans for the bj to begin with:
1. lift and 35's (defantly first, i need poser affect for school car park )
2. TUBE!!!
3. bubs coil idea
it will cost me abit less with bubs helping as in doing my tube bars for cheaper and stuff like that, but we'll see how far i get with $$$$$
we're ganna scrap the chopping at the moment and the soft top, i sorta like the hard top

Aza tell us about the car .What condition is it in. I dont want to sound like an old fuddy duddy but leaf springs will get you a loooonnnggg way for heeps cheeper than a coil conversion.Coils are only needed if you want to go really extreme. The 35 in tyres will bog your motor down without changing the diff ratios.32in would look cool with a 2 in lift. I had my suspension checked recentlyand found out that it was sagging 2 in.Im getting some new springs that will give it a 2 in lift plus replace the 2in it was sagging ,thats 4 in for 4xsprings for $670 plus about $200 for bushes u bolts ect .Then Im gonna get some 32 in simex tyres which give another 1/2 in lift Further down the track is a 1hz diesel conversion but thats another story.
