MQ sd33 rebuild
MQ sd33 rebuild
g'day, im rebuildin me sd33, got new pistons and rings in, but amin the shit now. when i tighten the con rod bolts to finger tight the crank can still rotate, but when i apply the right torque to the bolts, i can no longer turn the crank. could this be a bearing prob????

ours is not to ask why, but to do or die!
Terrafirma wrote:u can't do it with vernia calipers ... i'd take it to a proper crank grinding place and get it reground to suit the new bearings
if u try and do one the others will flog out 5000km later
u have to get the whole crank done
But if the crank is ok it would be easier to get the correct bearings than regrind it.

Take the crank to a engine specialist and get them to measure it and supply the correct bearings. It should cost less than $100.00 to get a crank ground and polished, a small price to pay compared to redoing the work all over again !!!!!
do it once...........do it right
do it once...........do it right

ShortyMQ wrote:Sounds like you got the wrong size bearings. You may have to measure the journals on the crank to get the right size.
na, i didnt get new bearings, only pistons and rings and sleeves, had bottom end rebuild last year under warranty. i think maybe wrong bottom end caps on wrong con rod causing them to stick, thanks for all ya suggestions everone though..

I ended up buying the rig and I use it as my "Work Hack" so its driven on a daily basis.
The motor has been changed over to one I knew that was healthy after I managed to fire the original one up..... it wasnt good at all, smoke everywhere !, I havent stripped it down at all but its still here for that "one day" job.
It may never happen as I have 2 other spare SD33's for the old girl when this one lets go.
As for the excessive smoke comming from the original donk ..... I can only say is of an amount that would suggest that there were no rings left at all......its that bad !. Vehicles following behind would have to sit around 400 metres back to have any chance of visiability
