cheapest way to turbo a 2L motor

Hey guys... does anyone have any thoughts on what may be the cheapest way to turbo a 2L motor ( i have just finished freshening the lump, rings bearings valve seals etc)

just looking for a little more power...


i've already owned a VR V6 hilux and a 3L hilux and i want power somewhere in between these two...an since it is just a fishing truck for now i am trying to get it on road for less than 2500...

vehicle, minor rering and minor head work 1200 bucks so far...

If you want to do it on the cheap you could always look at the SC12 or SC12 toyota superchargers.

They are basically a belt driven unit and about all you have to worry about is fabricating a bracket, rerouting your serp belt, and sorting out the air intake and piping to the motor.
They are clutch driven like your aircon and you can even have a switch to turn them on and off.
You have to choose the correct size belt pulley to ensure the supercharger is spinning at an rpm that matches your motor and power requirements.
They are good for around 10-11,000rpm and will produce 6-7psi without any real issues.
The supercharger itself can be had for $250-350 from plenty of wreckers.

A turbo is a bit harder as you have to mess around with exhaust flanges as well.
I don't have much info regarding turbo for your needs though but I am sure someone else will add their input.

how much extra power would that give you 10%20%? whats the differents between the sc12 or the sc12? :oops:

cool idea on the blower... is that like the one i would have put on the v6 ( available from castlemaine rod shop)

anyway after i checked the power figures the 2L is upposed to have 55 kw or so... i thought it was 45... so i have already gained 10 kw

plus i have the sr5 model so i have the altimeter and fore and aft lean guages... i think that is worth 2 kw or so as well... haha

Turbo and cheap really shouldnt be in the same sentence, personally if i was going to turbo a motor id be budgeting on around 6k, that would get me atleast a new set of mains, perhaps a full rebuild if u know the right person, a pump overhaul and injectors done to suit the turbo, the kit itself, and various other little things that will make the difference between just slapping a turbo on, and really getting your moneys worth, knowing your motor is safe, and importantly making the most of the power increase safely and reliably.

However, the 2L motor really isnt built to take any forced induction, small mains being the major concern.

Prob best idea would be to chase down a 2L-T, these are the turbo motors out of bunderas, and import surfs. It should bold straight up to your exisiting driveline and will be stronger and more reliable than turbo'ing the existing 2L.

If that doesnt appeal, the 3L 2.8 motors handle forced induction better.
