I have a Laserline car alarm in my Lux.
In my old car I had an alarm but also hooked up a cut off switch to the elec fuel pump. I had it hidden in plain view... wired into the demister switch and had the demister switch on a plain switch.
Another good idea is to get the good old engraver and put your drivers licence number on everything (stereo CB etc).
At least if it does get taken it might come back to you.

an immobiliser will stop ya general joyrider 17yr olds, not the pro's.
a hidden (though usually easily found) killswitch that comes from the loom going to + on the coil and basically turns off the power to let it run is your $3 option.(flamesuit on)
There's alarms out there and I'm to lazy to search to give you the links that will almost literally cause pain to the would be theif from the sound. there's also certain fuses that if the car is "jumped" will blow.
but again, if your not up and outside in around 3 mins you'll see your brake lights at the end of the street if its a professional theif.
or just do what a mate does and carry your rotor button around in ya pocket!

Black wired alarms are the standard, but what do you do if it fucks up in the bush? all wires are black. Most insurance companies wont insure you now without one (READ THE FINE PRINT ON YOUR POLICY- DUDE IN OUR CLUB NEARLY FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY)...

i've heard of the RX thing as i used to own an RX of my own, real scarey when you have that much money tyed up in a '70's car.
the real truth is if a theif want's your car they'll take it. no imobalizer will stop a tilt tray
but do what you thing is going to help, i'm relying on my factory imobalizer, something to do with turning off the computer, it'll fu@k up the casual thief, won't stop the pro though.
i say if a pro wants a rock rashed, beaten and scratched piss poor zook then go a head take it. but if i find you you'll want to die of naural causes, 'cause i'll make it real slow and painful (even if i have to give you a blood Transfusion to keep you alive)

You cant stop thives if they want it, my mate had his GTHO stolen from his garage and it was chained to the concrete, alarmed garage and two cars parked in front. He was on holiday at the time and it was well thought out. I have a tracking system in my nissan patrol. Its overkill, but i had it in my SS commodore and when i sold it i got it transfered to the nissan. It will be coming out and going in my new commodore soon and i will get a good black widow alarm with a multiple rolling code immobiliser(spelling?)
What about mounting a sparkplug in the fuel tank (petrols), and running a lead to it, that you plug in when you park.
That way if I cant have it neither can they...

About $30-50.00 from Jaycar or Dick Smith. Was quite big in the mid nighties (meaning it was advertised quite a bit in mags and catalogues)
Works well but. Could modify a simple timer to do the same thing if you happen to tinker with electronics at all.

You can make a great hidden switch called a reed switch.
You hide this anywhere in the interior behind some plastic and all you have to do to trigger the stich is run a magnet past it.

A Scary thing I discovered recently (bought a car that turned out to be a bit dubious) is that Different States have seperate databases so if your car is nicked you need to ring every state seperatly to report it stolen!!
I recently bought a car and did a Vic roads check on it, after I bought the car and started having problems they then informed me that the check only covered victoria and since the car was last registered in Qld I should do a check in Qld as well!! (thanks for telling me after the effect )
Scary really that you can steal a car in one state drive to the next and sell it with very little chance of the buyer even knowing its stolen even if they do a check!!!

Another idea for a diesel is a fuel shut off solenoid in line and hidden near the tank, wired to a secret switch somewhere.

Here is a link to one, they are new to me -top idea!, if I can find one that will handle 12v and fit a fuel shut off solenoid it will make a great backup for my already installed kill switch. For those times I get the heeby- geebies leaving the car alone.

If you have even a slight knowledge of things electrical the black wires are quickly figured out. Soon as you rip some panels off, the wires stick out quite noticably because they are all black. Did you have to modify your ciggy lighter to make it a switch? Can't see how it would work otherwise.
If the alarms installed properly (very few are....) the black wiring should all be integrated into the factory wiring looms and covered up. They should not be visible unless the loom covering is removed.
