ap50 cruise control

this is regarding the older ap50 cc made by lite-on

found a complete unit at a wreckers, got it for $10.

have no instuctions for it & found stuff all on the net about them
most of the goodies are connected but having trouble with it. as with the ap60 unit i held down the set button and turned it on to get to the diagnosis mode.
if you press the set or reset buttons the red led will light up, however i can not get the red light to light up when i press the brake pedal. i have tried both combinations of wiring in the brake peddle switch into the unit.
i havent connected the magnet loop thingo yet as i want to make sure the brake switch was working properly first.
am i wrong?, will the brake pedal not cause the red led to light up?
