Put a magnum 9500 on the front of the zook...wired it up as standard....worked fine with no tension on it....wound out the cable to respool it today and wheni went to wind it under load it stopped working and had that elctrical burning smell to it....solenoids still kick over and current getting to control box....
I'm hoping i haven't done the motor.....the motor barrel was very hot after some use as was the cables. I let it cool down and tried again but nothing except the click of the solenoids....all connections look good to me.
can anyone offer any suggestions at all?

In all seriousness, have you taken the cover off the solenoids to see if they are actually moving? Assuming from your description that they are and that power is getting to both terminals of the motor, it is possible that there is a shorted turn in the motor, or you have dumped a brush into it (broken spring).
Only way to find out for sure would be to pull it down.

Just tested all of the terminals at the battery, control box joints, and the connections attaching control box to winch motor and there seems to be power getting through to the winch but not action.
I disengaged the clutch and pulled a little of the cable out and then engaged it again and hit the wind in switch and the motor wound OUT about 1/3 of a full turn really slowly then stopped. battery is fine, alternator is working....is it the winch motor?

If you have excluded battery, alternator, cables, solenoids, and have ensured that you have voltage at the motor terminals, then logically it has to be the motor that is the problem.
If it is new/near new it would be covered under warranty, wouldn't it? If so take it back to them.

I would check that you have all of the cables in the right spots.
A mate had a 12000lb one and it was terminated wrong. Winched out fine but was drawing twice as much current as it should, then would not winch in And got really hot on the winch out.
