80 Series 4.5L auto to Gen III conversion

Post by Shifta »

G'day all,

Has anyone done this conversion, I would like to know in detail what is involved and what the approximate cost would be. If anyone knows of a contact that I could call/email it would be gratly appreciated.

Brad.
Cheers Brad.

I've looked into it. The auto needs new valve body according to Wholesale autos ($900), CRS do bellhousing (same bolt pattern as old 350 chev) for less than $400 (can't remember exactly). Std torque converter is good for the job (std motor) apparently.
Engine mounts would have to be custom but they look pretty simple.
New wiring harness from Holden is about $600 if you don't get it when you buy motor. CRS do custom wiring harness for certain vehicles but I don't think they do them for any 4x4's at the moment.
I think the engine computer needs to be reprogrammed if it came with auto std, but the manual ones don't? COME racing look after that anyways, again a few hundred $$.
These motors can't run gas without mods- I think the intake manifold needs to be exchanged for alloy one.
That's about it as fas as my knowledge goes.
