im interested in chopping the back end off my GQ and making a small flat tray for it, has anyone here done it themselves? im after any tips in reguard to strengthening the area around the pillars, what you used for a rear windscreen, engineering issues etc. any advice or pics of work in progress would be appreciated.
im sort of looking at my options at the moment. i would like to not quite cut of behind the rear seat and maybe chop it a bit further back just behind the rear wheel arch. then weld the original back, back on, relocte the fuel tank (higher) and trim the chassis rails down, this way i would still have some storage space behind the rear seat and still gain great departure angles and get rid of the rear quarters that are forever getting hammered

mate your best bit, is going to see an engineer, take a detailed list of what you want to do, how you plan on doing it, what materials you plan to use,
this way, the engineer can give you all details needed before you start, some engineers also like to do mid way checks one the welding is complete so they can get you to fix stuff if they are not happy with it,
i took my shorty ute to the engineer the other day, and he gave me a few help full tips and also requested a couple of braces, which i have since put in,
also, if you cut behind the wheel arch, you are gunna end up with a tiny tray, which in my mind would be useless,

I use Consulmotive at Peakhurst, while he is thourough and strickt on the rules and regs, he is a great bloke to deal with, and in the ned, you know your Car is going to be A1,
im doing my ute chop on my SWB at the moment, and while its alot of work, its coming along really well, and the engineer is happy,
