Rear 1/4 cuts
Has anyone got to the rear of their MQ with a grinder? I want to raise my barwork in line with the b/l so i have a better departure angle, but am hesitant due to the fact that i know the rear 1/4's will get worked again.

I agree BOGGED, but I think its because they all cut em too low down.
I'd cut it at the top of the "V" ridge or in the centre instead of the bottom like everyone does!

Sounds similar to the old "your car isnt beaten up heap of shit so you dont go hard enough" theory.
Cause my car is in 1 piece, doesnt mean I dont like a challange... Theres lots of GQs out there with 1/4s that go hard.
Less panels, then go with a buggy or tube machine... thenhave no panels to worry about

GQ i was always gunna weld em in but cause i have yet to fit my 37"s im unsure if a may have to trim a wittle bit more out on the front of the quarter so i just sickaflexed em in and now that there in im quite happy with how strong the sickaflex actually is in a situation like this ...............and it also allows easy removal if for some reason i have too

easy job as ive said take ya time ....it took me 2 nights after work to do it i just made sure of a nice tight fit so that it isnt necessary to hold the plate in place while the sikka goes off ......
I found alot of sand and shite in the strengthenin section that runs down the inner side of the quarter from the body mount areas on either side hence the reason y ya can see the large hole the left in the pic from the under side
The drivers side requires another hole to be drilled , hole pulled so that you can your light wiring harness can go back into quarter section again.........

Nutt ive got nearly all the gear just not fitted damn it
tyres , f/r arb's, 4.6 ratio's , springs ,panhards, castor plates ,dampener,
Trans gears r in finally
just need rims , shockies , and do the rear suspension mods (4 link)once lift is in of course..........and then try and follow shortygq and build the five link front
And finish my front bar then weld some sliders on all in 5 weeks b4 me kid arrives ....................dont think im gunna make it

Just finished my chop yesterday. The sikaflex works really well. Gives it a little flex but still holds the plate in place. The sikaflex looks like a REALLY neat weld. For me it was a GOOD day's work.
I still have to plaster bitumen paint all underneath to seal it.
I put my wire harness thru the exact same sopt that A1MAV did. Perfect spot for it.
I found a HEAP of dried mud and crap in that hole that A1MAV left open. I am thinking of sealing it right up into the back tray with expanding foam.

I used a 4" grinder. Worked OK cos I took my time.
I made a rough cut about 1/2" lower than the final line to remove the bulk of the 1/4. I then had plently of room to made the final clean cut.
If you make light passes rather than hacking into it, the panel stays cool and the paint won't peel off.
