hey guys
i picked up a second hand ARB locker fitted in a 40 series centre, which had a broken pinion. the carrier has a wide shallow gouge from the pinion about 20mm long, 10mm wide and 3mm deep. is this likely to majorly weaken the carrier, or should it be ok. Has anyone had an ARB carrier with this kind of damage and driven it hard with or without failure?

damaged air locker carrier

I bought a second hand locker from Ruff a while back that had gouges right round it from when a pinion bearing collapsed and the pinion teeth touched the carrier.
The only problem I had was my fault. The steel air line touched on the carrier and the gouges rubbed through the line within about 15 mins. It would have only been a matter of time and a smooth carrier would have rubbed through too.
Other than that it has worked like a charm.
I would say the damage is superficial only.
Paul.
