OK folks I have teh Rego coming up VERY shortly and need to get the 88 yellow shorty bitch (TD42 manual by the way) pink slipped, I am having a few auto-electrical problems.
I am posting this here, rather than the auto-electrical section, as more often than not these vehicles exhibit the same gremlins and I am hoping this is the case. If you disagree mods then you can move..
Problems being:
-Dash Lights/Instrument Cluster will not illuminate when head lights turned on. It is not a fuse. I have changed the fuse twice and it isn't even blowing. Any common places for a short/misadventure of power lol ??
-My headlights have been giving me nothing but TITS lately. One won't work in lowbeam but it will in highbeam - New Globe ??
Cheers,
Jeremy

I am not even going to pretend I will be of any real use to you and your problem but have you been running higher wattage globes on your car or have you wired in spotlights to run directly from your high beam? Sounds very much like a problem I had once with a vehicle where the previous owner did some poor work and cost me a new steering column blinker/light cluster.
I saved some time by cleaning the entire unit with electrical contact cleaner but one night my headlights failed at speed (scary) so I did the job properly with a replacement ASAP.

I had the dash light problem you are talking about. Are the tail lights also not working when the dash lights are out? If they are both going out like mine were intermittently then check behind the tail light fuse where the little tabs hold it in place. They go brittle over time and can get tiny cracks in them. Thats what mine was anyway, if you gave the fuse a wiggle everything would come back on. The fuse never blew. Worth a look.
