I've decided to mount my compressor under the front seat of my GU (no room in the engine bay).
Anyway, I've swapped the mount so that the compressor now sits on its side allowing it to clear the seat.
Is it OK to mount these on their side?
Any long term effects?
I only run it when I air-up after driving and don't run a locker or anything else off it (really, only gets used say 15 times a year at most).

i have just set up a bushranger max air in my truck with a reservoir tank, make sure you run a copper pipe straight out from the back of the compressor head as this will make a good heat sink. The copper pipe can be bent by hand to any shape and can be coiled to get larger surface area. Mine cuts in/out at 90/110 psi with a 240 volt motor switch from a larger compressor. Make sure you use an unloader line and a non return valve if you use a tank. I can't see any issues with being run on it's side as it doesn't have a sump or oil galleries etc. I will eventually run a second one in parallel with the first to improve times/reliability and duty cycles. Remember when mounting it, that any thing that gets hot on the compressor/heatsink pipe will melt plastic or seat foam.

Mounted it today and it came up a treat. There is plenty of clearance around the head - both carpet below and seat foam above.
I know it gets hot, and I will keep a close eye on it for the first couple of times. I don't think it will get so hot that it will melt carpet unless the carlet actually comes inot contact with it.
Mounted a switch in the dash that is only active when accessories are on (essentially it is now double switched - the swith in the dash and the switch on the unit itself).

ive mounted mine under my passenger seat, it does get hot from time to time, but i rarely use it for pumping tyres, i only use it for charging the air tank for lockers. just slide the seat away when using it for long periods.
horizontal isnt an issue as they have no oil in them.
