CV joints - how often to repack?
CV joints - how often to repack?
I have been paging through my Gregory's manual - They recommend repacking the grease in the CV joint every 20,000 miles (32,000kms). This seems a little excessive to me. I recall it was a job that needed doing every 60,000 miles in my old Landcruiser. What is the schedule that people keep to generally? I'm mostly on road and hardly ever go through
water or mud deep enough to enter the CV. BTW, mine is a 3.0 swb
Cheers, Jim

i just put new wheel bearings in at 83,000kms, mainly due to the 35" tyres and offset rims i'm running.
it didnt need bearings but i threw a set in anywway for good measure....
cv's from the factory apparently have not enuf grease in them to start with if you are doing lots of 4wd work, mine were repacked properly when the front locker went in at 12 months old.

Thanks
Your gregory's manual should suggest a maintenance schedule for this - my Nissan service manual suggests every 40,000km, although individual driving style, off road use, modifications etc will dictate whether this is to be followed or whether it is done earlier than suggested.
