MK swb - name that wire....
MK swb - name that wire....
so i was driving threw some hevy scrub (note: bush bashing) and i got some long grass caught around my drive shaft (front) and i was drivign home and it started to make a noise... so i stoped to pull it out and my charge light came on.. get under car, grass wraped around and a wire with a plug aswell...
this wire was hanging loose for a while, but was never in the way of anything.
now my car wont crank...
not sure where it goes to or from. but it is on the left side of the motor (*near starter) and goes off towards the gear box...
i will get pictures 2morrow if where i think it goes, and of it...
but does anyone have any ideas what it is? (from the brief description)
car still has power... ligths ect work... but wont crank over... or make the click of a flat battery.

as said, its the wire for the starter, it should have a female spade terminal on it, should slide straight on the soleniod on the side of the starter motor, ( should be a male spade tab there )
good luck.
screwy

Everything sounds like the solenoid control wire, except for the charge light coming on?dromana7411 wrote:so i was driving threw some hevy scrub (note: bush bashing) and i got some long grass caught around my drive shaft (front) and i was drivign home and it started to make a noise... so i stoped to pull it out and my charge light came on.. get under car, grass wraped around and a wire with a plug aswell...
wire
it deffinatly the starter motor solenoid wire as u are missing it in the pic...off the male spade on the solinoid as to where the other end is just look for bugged wires:P
rn106r 100watt hid lightforce 30 inch light bar 1 ton tipper and more to come
juts went and had another look at it... turns out im missing alot more wires....
theres a big plug thingo that is missing everthing that plugs into it,
which i think the wires in the first pic go to, oil pressuer sender is missing a wire, and im guessing alot more...
so i might have to give the auto elec a call.
went down the road that i stopped on lastnight and found a few peices of wire that came off... founf half of the one that goes to the oil pressure sender, and another one, which is white with a red stripe. no luck in finding the plug.
might try the wreckers tommorrow to see if i can find one with all the wires connected so i can find out where they all go...

Bummer
That one out the side of your gearbox is your reverse light, and yeah, as said, your starter appears to be missing the control wire (signals the solenoid so the fat wire can pump current to the starter).
I'd say the charge light is no concern. What you describe is what I was thinking originally: car stalled + key still in on position = charge light on.
But it sounds like you've snagged a loom and pulled a few out. Bit of a biatch, but not too tricky. The entire wiring loom ain't *too* complicated. Fix the starter control wire and start the car. Notice no reverse light, oil pressure, temp?, whatever else, and start re-wiring!

alright... put it in... now my car starts, and drives well...
started it up, and the charge light was on... i said "oh shit" go out looked under bonnet and the plug had also been ripped out with the rest... so i then realised i had to plug the new one in... now that works...
then i realised that it is missing 2 wires still... on the 6 plug thingo... the 2 end ones one balck/red stripe and one black. they wernt on the new plug... so i dont know what they go to.
but the car starts and drives fine...
so if sombody could please check theres? (does anyone still have l28's in MK's anymore? maby i should get a v8 aswel.)
i'll get a pic of the plug in a min...
also while under the car i found a clear hose coming out of the gear box... is that my gear box breather?

L28 loom near +ve terminal has 6plug and 2 plug.
One pair goes to reverse switch on gearbox.
One pair goes to F plug on alternator.
One pair goes to postive post on alternator.
One wire goes to starter solenoid.
One wire goes to oil pressure.
Note sure of 2 wire plug and 6 wire plug configuration, but the 6 wire plug appears to have 2x reverse wires and at least 2x alternator wires. The other two are either altenator or starter/oil.
