Early chevs had a factory mod which was a short wire strop between the left top A arm and the left exh manifold to prevent the engine tearing the mount by torquing too far.
The Chev Patrols I have done break their L/H mount so I built a steel strap to go arround the mount and prevent too much stretch. Look at ways to tie the engine down, it's usually only the L/H side.

build yourself some spool mounts unbreakable!!
360 in the scout used to try to tear itself out of the engine bay, fabbed some spool mounts alls good now. That was 2 years ago.
don't go solid if you drive it alot vibes & noise will drive you mad

thanks guys. i have since found out another interesting tridbit of info.... the dellows kit for rover into hilux usesw 200B datto engine mounts!!!! must be fuckin strong, mine only broke after 2yrs!
was going to just weld a fish plate and chain link onto chassi and use a chain to the enginemonut bracket on the block?? this would be ok wouldnt it?? i cant see a problem. not a daily driver. pure offroad dirty hardcore fun XXX !!

I wouldnt solid mount a Rover Motor. They only have 3 bolts going into the block. 2 X 7/16th bolts and one 5/16bolt. The 5/16th bolt will pull clean out of the block in no time. Use a rubber mount again and fit a chain if you have too. 2 years out of an engine mount in a hilux that does a lot of offroad work isnt too bad.

run a decent size chain either over the mount or from the block to the chassis it will stop the engine ripping up to high

Yep run with the rubber mount and use a chain to restrict the flex yet still allow the motor to rock that way you will have no vibrations/noises . But I do like the spool mounts

I was getting so much flex in my engine mounts on my GQ patrol auto caused by the 85% reduction gears that my fan had rubbed threw the fan shroud.

My solution was to chain the engine mounts down but not tight so it can still move.
It's been like it for around 3 months now and has done plenty of hard off road work and the fan hasn't touched the shroud since.
Cheers Mick.

Make sure you dont attach that chain to the Small engine mount bolt at the top. It will pull out real easy.

I was considering doing that to the Pootrol with the V8 in it..... any history of the Holden V8 ripping mounts?

Ruff: i was gunna use a disused mount in front and up slightly. it points out and has a hole drilled in it. looks beefy so i will make a plate up and bolt ot too it and thenuse a shackle so i can get it off easy.

Havent heard of the V8 ones breaking but my 6cyl. HK ripped one while I was doing a ******* and the accelerator linkage jammed at full revs so I had to shut it off at the ignition key or I would have had no rear treads left!
That was when I was young and silly though
