3.9Litre idling problems

Post by Shark »

This has got me real confused and im not sure wether its a landrover thing or wether i have a problem.

-The idle NORMALLY when you come to a stop sits around 1000rpm for around 5 seconds and then drops to 700rpm BUT once or twice a week it stays around 1500/2000rpm slowly slowing down to 1200rpm and then sometimes back down to 700rpm... but usually sits at 1500rpm

Problem is when its revving at that rpm it makes gear changes a real pain ...Also it seems that the revs are slower to drop than they should be

Can anyone shed some light???

Remove your Idle Air control valve and clean it with some Carby cleaner. Chances are its sticky. its the Big Black Nut looking thing at the rear of the manifold with 4 wires coming out of it. Un plug the Wires and Unscrew it.
