Maverick XLT specs?
Maverick XLT specs?
Hi Guys, Im new here. Im looking at an 1988 SWB Maverick XLT tomorrow morning.
Can anyone inform me of what they have over base models that I can look forward to?
Other than rust on the rear windows is there anything else I should look out for?
Cheers
Dan

Thanks guys, The ad for this one said it had diff locks, so I imagine one is the factory one and the other is aftermarket.
I beleive they have a sunroof as standard. All the ones I have seen for sale seem to have a sunroof.
I forgot to ask wether it was auto or manual on the phone. What was the standard equipment from the factory? Im hoping its manual.
I hope its alright, I cant wait to head out into the bush with my mates and not have to be passenger.

My XLT SWB had from factory:
Wide wheel pack (15x7 wheels, 31" tyres, flares)
A/c
P/s
Electric Mirrors
Sunroof
Carpet
Central locking
2 din stereo (yuk but leaves room for cb and stereo)
automatic aerial
tacho
sliding rear windows
4.2 engine
Tilt adjustable steering
Some may have power mirrors.
Oh yeah - factory rear difflock.

The owner had it fully detailed last night so it looks shiny. It wont be like that for long. I hate shiny cars, way too much maintenance involved.
I paid $8K, it has front and rear lockers, Dual fuel, manual, sunroof, power options, CB radio, CD player, suspension and bodylift, bullbar, snorkel, towbar and tints.
I think it was an alright price.
What do you guys think?

Thanks guys, Im hanging to get it. The last owner is organising a RWC for it on monday so i should have it monday night. I cant wait!
First thing to do will be to put my stereo in it so I can clear up some space in my bedroom. I got rid of my last daily over a year ago and have only had a motorbike and half finished drag car sitting in the shed ever since.
Its going to be nice to have a car I can drive again.
Would you guys agree on a winch being the first mod or would there be better things to spend the cash on first?
Do people bother with power mods in 4wd's or is there no point as hills are taken slowly and in 4 low?
I have done a search and can only find details on forced induction or v8 conversions. I dont want to do either. The last 3 cars including the drag car are all converted turbo engines. I dont want to do another one.

It depends on what sort of use your going for. If you're going for hard offroad stuff - mud / rocks - and your mates don't have a winch either, then it's probably the first buy.dansedgli wrote:...Would you guys agree on a winch being the first mod or would there be better things to spend the cash on first?...
What about tyres? do the one's you've got suit the terrain your hoping for. A/T's are crap if you're going searching for mud - they turn to slicks real quick.
Agreed, provided that you're not planning on putting it into a situation that you can't self recover from with what you have.Beastmavster wrote:it's neat and straight - your forst mod should be armour so it stays that way. Then lift.
Its got Mud terrains on it now. We usually go to the tracks out at toolangi, we like mud.
Are Mud terrains okay tyres?
My mates have a stock '97 pathfinder, a stock but lifted '83 hilux and a lifted sierra. I only have to be able keep up with these guys as far as serious off roading goes.
We have a turfer between the lot of us. No-one has a bullbar mounted winch yet.
What kind of armour do you guys mean?

What do we mean by armour?
Well on Mavericks, there's two areas whch are really vulnerable. The sills and the rear quarters.
In the end most get heavy damage.
My recommendation is that you get some tube bar style armour made up there.
If you have factory sidesteps, unbolt them before you go offroad. Armour 2 shows why.
If you have have a factory rear bar, remove the ends of this as well - they tend to fold at the slightest hit and take out your tail lights. Expensive.
