...what i really hope is that they're still live axle at both ends! I'd be devestated if they went to ifs. They wouldn't do that, would they?

New Cruiser
G'day all,
I work for Toyota and have spoken to several people who have seen and driven the new Cruiser during development and evaluation. By the end of this year, there will be a new cab-chassis cruiser that will be similar to the current 78series in shape with slight cosmetic mods. The dealers said that buyers werent after a 100series style cab-chassis as they wanted the ute for work and offroad ability not looks.
It'll have a 5.5 litre V8 common rail turbo diesel that should have around 500nM torque. Yes, it'll be larger than the current 78series in length and width.
The 100 series wagon replacement will be an all new shape, and will have the afoementioned engine with an additonal turbo (that's right twin turbo) and intercooled pushing the 600nM torque barrier.
It is also supposed to have better fuel consumptio than the current 4.2 turbo diesel.
It will be worth waiting for
max.

just wait and see towards the end of the year, and if Im mistaken come back and abuse and criticize me as much as you want but till then hold your criticism for yourself coz its people like you who stop legitimate people in the know exposing any information on future models, thus disadvantaging fellow members who respectfully appreciate this sort of info being passed on.
Thankyou.

Cheers, DD is indeed one of the gurus here
There probably will be need for a larger diesel engine in Toyota's line eventually as they move into full size utes in the North American market to compete with the likes of Ford F350. Either way, I'll be very excited if and when they do. The problem is that their newer 4by trucks have their front diff centre on the (Aus.) passenger side, thus adapting the engine to our cars would take aftermarket parts. Unless of course the new 130 series keeps the front diff centre on the drivers side.

I have also heard from toyota reps that the v8 diesel is coming. The person I spoke to said they doubt it will eventuate to be a twin turbo but will definantly be a v8 turbo diesel. There was also a magazine article about 6 months ago which had news of the new cruiser sporting a toyota v8 twin turbo diesel. (prototype cruiser).
The 1H motor is pretty old now and has been taken about as far as it can go. It was time for toyota to build a new motor both for emissions reasons and also for power reasons (to stay ahead of competition). They had a decision to make, spend millions on another 6 or do not pass go and go strate to V8. I know just about everyone who owns a turbo diesel 100 series cruiser (ie can afford the best) and has heard about the v8 turbo have said they will be getting one. Both my brothers who presently have 4.2TD GXL's will definantly be getting one. Even if its about 10 grand dearer than its petrol v8 brother, which it probably will be, it will sell like hotcakes.

If they only offered IFS across the range for the all new cruiser then I would be looking at the patrol. As big a landcruiser fan as I am, if I wanted IFS on my 4x4 I would by a prado. Keep the IFS to the mid size fourbies, and at least leave us with more than 1 full live axle wagon on the market. Its sad when the bitumen cowboys buy enough of em to influnce the decisions to produce cars like this.

"believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see/read and you will then get some where near the truth"
Having read much of what DumbDunce has had to say in the past and having never heard of you before, I think then that the smell of B/s is still little strong for me as well.
Here-say is wonderful for selling gossip mags but without facts (read toyota URL's) your gossip has little strength in an open forum
But please for curiosity's sake prove us all wrong

I hope it's true about the V8. Would fit right into the 80.
I won't hold my breath tho.
I would rather toyota made the running gear stronger than worry too much about a powerfuller engine.
I have seen too many hungy's throw the front diff (admittedly they have all been in reverse at the time) to feel too secure in buying one.
I'll stay with my 80 for a few more years yet.
