my zook is running like crap

Post by chunkz »

well all of a sudden the zook is running like absolute shit

it idles at about 500rpm.....
takes alot after start up until i can start to accelerate (if i accelerate the rpm drops real low and either cuts out or i let go so it doesnt stall)

its real slow, its slower then it would be if it was in low range (no its not in low range)

hills on the road that i can do 80km/h in 5th gear...
i can now do about 70km/h in 4th gear...

im blowing black smoke out the back....
the hose thing that leads from the air intake to the extractors (near them) which is the auto choke thing... (isnt it?) has come off.... but i put it back on and it still runs shit

any ideas

you may have some shit stuck in your injectors. try reving the engine pretty hard and then covering the air intake (on top of the carby) with your hand. it will likly stall the car but that is ok. The black smoke suggests that your fuel isnt mixing properly. try it a few times before giving up.

Sounds like auto choke is stuffed and staying on, mine does that for about 5min for the first time i start it for the day! once its been stared once it dont do it! Mine does the same hard to idle at first(black smoke) and it konks out if dont rev it a bit and also konks if the revs arent right. but all is good after 5mins! i'm about to experience it in a minute coz i'm going wheeling! chow

this hose is simply a warm air hose. it helps your car run better in the winter (more economical) and helps to stop your carby freezing up. I dont think you would notice much difference if you took it off and left it off which most people have to do when they fit a snorkle

most likely choke issues, the linkages can seize from rust n mud, or the actuator thingy can jam up.

You can see position of choke by looking at side of carby, check its possy in morning, dead cold, then warm car up, see if it moves.

If all that fails get rid off the offending part.

Carb in general or i believe u can take off the suzuki water shoke system and run no choke or manual choke.

I have no choke as i run a toyota carb, but still thinking of setting up a manual choke.

get engine running, then If you pull a lead off, and it drops idle and runs rougher, then that lead/plug/cylinder is working.
If idle stays same, its a dead plug/lead/cylinder.
I use something insulated, in case a faulty lead zapps me, as I conduct very well

okay

well i did the bit where you choke the carby (block its air)
outcome.... dirty hands

now i take out the spark lead (whilst running) closest to the driver
car drops about 100rpm and lead sparks me, bastard (so no problem with lead)
put it back on and cars fine...

take out (one at a time) the other 3, and the cars idle drops dramatically almost stalls...

so im guessing that first one is running like shit....
that spark plug is covered in what looks like oil grease dirt n shit
i cleaned it up, still runs like crap...
car still smokes on idle
and smokes big at high rev

sounds like plug is being oil fouled. could be worn rings or valve stem seals.

spark plug may be dead, or lead cracked, too, hopefully it's not serious, but could be.

stick the spark plug into the lead, but not into engine. Make sure metal body of plug is earthed. turn over engine, it may start, and look for a spark at the plug end.

for 15 bucks you may as well replace all your plugs.. and even look at leads as well.. cant hurt.
