Rusty chrome rims - how to paint them?

Post by UZJ40 »

Have a couple of sets of chrome rims that have surface rust on them, some real bad, and some of the chrome is flaking off.

i want to tidy them up and weld some beadlocks on one set.

what is the best method to prep them to paint?

do i need to get all the chrome off by blasting it?

make sure you get all the chrome off before welding to them. they may crack at the welds otherwise

Either sand them well... or get them sandblasted, works best.

I painted my wheels with VHT acrylic enamel paint.. it is wearing really well and didnt require any primer or base coating.

I had some chromed Sunraysia rims that the chrome was flaking off and they were rusty.

I hit them with the wire brush on the end of the drill to clean them up. Then used an etching paint. Then painted them with black killrust.

Problem fixed.
