Shortening bodies legally in Qld

Some would remember my question a week or so ago about shortening a LWB chassis to suit a SWB Daihatsu Rocky.
The alternative to this is to cut the window section (and the worst of the body rust at the same time) out of the SWB body and rejoin the rear section, permenantly close the rear door, and fit this all to the LWB chassis, then build a tray on the rear.
So the question is, what are the legal requirements for cutting and shutting a body to make it shorter in Queensland. Is this another one for an engineer to check and fit a mod plate to?

Speak to the Department of Transport and ask them for the contact details of an authorised officer, the code will probably be LH3. It will be a lot easier to get passed because Rocky's have a seperate chassis (AFAIK).

Since you are using a standard LWB chassis that will make it easier again, as there is no scrutiny of the fabrication of a chassis extension.

Basically, as long as the cab is sealed and it's done properly you should be golden.

queensland is all too easy for this stuff. you will need to get a panel van to ute code or similar as that is all they have in the system should cost around $77 these days. I got mine done fo 130 odd but that included reducing the seat capacity. the alternative is to find an engineer and use truck codes which are tougher than car codes and show exactly what you need to me truck compliant and 100% car compliant. you wil get a truck mod plate. should be around $200 odd all up. personally i would just get it mod plated as i said first
