Changing the outer CV shaft / axle - Rodeo

Post by rainsey »

Guys,

I know there was an earlier thread re changing a boot on the inner Cv on the Rodeo and an accompaning thread in Planetisuzo & 4X4 wire, but what is the go if one wants to only remove the outer shaft.

The workshop manual, plus the above forums make mention to only the inner joint. Can the outer shaft be replaced easily enough without toom much trauma....

And on another hand, in trying to purchase an outer shaft I am getting all sorts of whinges from vendors stating that teh Rodeo has a myriad of spline options...... is this fact or fiction.

Cheers

cv and splines

Post by Guzzi »

Rainsey,

There was a change in the CV joints from mid 1995, mine is a late 1994 model, I assume that was a change in the number of splines or diameter or both not sure. Ive got a few worn ones in the shed, Ill get back to you with spline qty and stub diameter.

I take it you have a spare stub axle lying around and just want to switch it?

I did my cv boots and cleaned and regreased the inner and outer cv joints while I was at it, about 2 yrs ago, but cant remember if I pulled the outer one apart, sorry.
If I get time Ill have a look at pulling that apart as well.

You have any photos of this damage youve suffered?, its got me interested as well.

Pete

Guzzy,

I will have a spare stub axle once I pull the broken one out!! Once i get it out I will take a pic of it. while it is ion there there is way too much grease to make heads or tails of it.

Cheers

Graham
