Post by jimbo jones »

Hi does anyone know where or who sells the turbo kit for the 4.5 petrol 80?
I am ether going to turbo my 6 or fit a Lexus V8.
Also what brand workshop manuel dose Mark 4WD refer to when fitting the part time kit? Has any one fitted this kit them self?
Any help would be great thanks

The turbo system that Safari used to make is no longer offered as a kit....AVO apparently make a kit...the capa would be good also...Kazuma make a supercharger under the TRD bannor....but there is nothing like an intercooled turbo system....
I have one on my cruiser with a part time kit (because its hard to steer with the front wheels spinning) 240kw/540nm

I had one with a lexus v8. My 4.5 tuned up with an aftermarket computer goes far better. V8 sounded good but that was about it. You will go to all the effort of putting it in and then be looking for forced induction. Not the same diffrence as a 5.7 would make. If i ever went to v8 it would be a 5.7. Besides i can't see the point paying v8 rego on an engine smaller than the one i got ie the 4.5. More cubes or forced induction i say - or both!

AVO do a kit for the 4.5 petrol 80, cant recommend the turbo over the supercharger highly enough, better economy, more power, because turbo is 'free" power, supercharger is parasitic power.

Mate of mine in the US at Slee Offroad has had both, Ive only had a turbo 80 [back in 96 on which i sold to Stormin norman just before his infamous woodpecker video] and you cant compare the 2.

10 psi boost with good 98 fuel the 4.5 will take without any issues when tuned correctly too, back in 96 my 80 was 220kw and 580nm @ the rear wheels on 35's with 10 psi boost on 94 octane premium.

The engine went to 285 rwkw on 38's on straight lpg after it came out of Normans vehicle I believe.
