the mighty h motor

Post by Orange 47 ute »

Is anyone out there running the H motor in their 45. The reason why i ask this is that i run a H motor in my ute that is soon to be rego'd. Mine is in great cond having only travelled 86000klms since new. Iam intersted if it will actually do 110kmh with a 4 speed, as i have heard otherwise. Also what economy do these motors get, im guessing 13-15 ltrs/100klms am i close with this?

in a 47 it'd be a 2h

but if by some miracle, it is a H (yep they existed) and it's healthy it'll cruise on 110 easily with a 4 speed box

mine (when it was healthy) has hit 160 in a troopy. cruised melbourne to warnambool and back every weekend at 100 no probs

When i was doin up my forty i bought a HJ45 first with that motor. Anyway i first planned to rebody it as the body was badly rusted. However on later inspections of the chassis it was repairable but rusted and pitted in the usual areas. I managed to get a hj47 project with a sandblasted chassis and rust free body in primer for $1600. But it came without motor so i made the H motor and gearbox fit with only a minor mod to the n/s back engine mount. After a few chops on the wiring loom it starts and runns well. Also my model is on the crossover of 45 to 47 so it still has the old dash but the under floor fuel tank. It may sound a bit dodgy registering a newer model wit a older engine but i have a mate to do the roadworthy and if transport Knoks it back i still have the vin plates from the old car so a swap, a grinder and a letter/number stamp should do the trick I could fit a 2h but this engine is so tight it runs like a sewing machine

yeah before i blew mine (was bad_r's) it would sit good at 110, even better than a 100, 120kph was not bad either. :D

cheers

Dean

ps. no i did not over rev it when i blew the motor, heads stuffed :D
Holden or laxatives? I pick laxatives, at least I'm guaranteed the sh*ts gonna run !!!

yeah i figured this might have been the case.

if it runs like a sewing machine it'll sit on 110 no worries.
